chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/3806317.htmlThe last arrests made in conjunction with the hiring of illegal immigrants in Texas were made in 2003, and only then because the City of Austin had hired illegals to clean the municipal airport and the Feds thought this compromised security. Illegal aliens are employed all over the state (and the nation), and while I will not argue that this is right or good, the federal government has been complicit in allowing this to happen. Why the U-turn now? I'm not even sure DHS/ICE has enough resources to effectively enforce hiring laws, which further suggests this is a PR stunt. And if the Feds are indeed serious about upping enforcement, who will they go after? More subsidiaries of European companies, or Mom & Pop American businesses? My guess is not the latter.

it smells of a PR effert with illegals being in the news so much right now. It would be great to see headlines like this every week or two,
of course you go after the big guys first and work your way down. if you scare the big guys enough there would be far fewer mom & pops willing to take the risk.
