Corzine faces an interesting and difficult choice, and he's likely to nominate someone within the next week. Does he go with the presumptive favorite in Menendez, who is a safe play and would be in good position for the election in 2006? Does he nominate a talented politician in Andrews to keep political bosses in southern NJ happy? Does he go with Holt as a less political pick with potential risks due to Holt's smaller coffers?
The Trenton Times has endorsed Holt, but this is not a decision based on popular will, as the electorate amounts to one person.
Figure there have to be a few New Jerseyans on the board because there are more than a few at GU...

Well, I'm not (god forbid:)) a new jersyeyan, but I am a political junkie. Tom Kean Jr is a tough, tough candidate, and none of the Dems are guaranteed to beat him. Kean may be running off his dad's name, but that's worked for others recently...Menendez is a mean sonofabitch as a politician, plus he had that nasty scandal with the campaign finance and the woman (I forget the details). Holt's a good guy, but does he have statewide name recognition? How about reaching way into the ranks and tagging Corey Booker? Silly, I know, but Booker is very much cut from the same mold as Obama in that he's young, black, attractive, smart (Rhodes scholar from Stanford), and ridiculously charismatic. Not as charismatic as The Boss, but slighly less of a pipedream (only slightly). Newark Councilman to United States Senator would be quite a leap, but I'd love to see it.
Was Cody interested in the job? He'd be a strong candidate simply based on his status as "the guy who isn't jim mcgreevy." He cuts a pretty appealing public persona, with a very blunt way of speaking.

Codey took his name out of consideration earlier this week or last week (don't remember which). I have not followed Booker to the extent that I should.

Holt is my representative. He was a 5 day champion on Jeopardy, back when they'd only let you win 5 days in a row.
But he got on my bad side because I wrote him an email and I never heard back, despite requesting a response (even a form letter woulda been cool). My government teacher was giving out extra credit if we wrote to and heard back from an elected federal official. I coulda used those points.
That's the extent of my knowledge on the issue.

Being a left coaster, I know little of NJ politics. I entered this thread because I thought I might have missed who Corzine appointed, and wanted to find out. Having done so, though, I must say I'm rotflmao at the thought of Bruce in the United States Senate.

Living only minutes from Jersey, I'm just happy to see anyone BUT Corzine in the Senate. Even if it is Rush Holt.
