John Tierney writes about an issue similar to the one that started this thread in the NYT. (But I can't link to NYT because of this dumb new TimesSelect BS. Yeah, I like reading David Brooks' column, but now I'll just wait until my local paper reprints them instead of visiting the Times website. So here's a link to the Denver Post.) www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_3239897

The level of one's education is directly proportional to the amount of work one is willing to put into it. Students that work harder do deserve to get better jobs and better representation. that's crazy...

There are a lot of very well-educated Blacks that don't like Michael Steele because of what he stands for...not because of his education...my wife has a J.D., her sister and my sister have an MBA, and they don't care for Mr. Steele at all... Unfortunately, my wife was not well-liked by other Blacks because she was perceived as "Acting White"...hence she has a lot of friends that are non-black... I was accused of "Acting White" by some black folks for playing soccer and making good grades...and I was accepted by a lot of whites because I spoke well, made good grades, and as I was told by several white folks, because I don't act like the "Others"...But because I was such a successful athlete at my high school, my grades were overlooked by some, and enhanced my acceptability with others... There are definitely a lot of Black people that are still affected by that Jim Crow way of thinking...but there are still A LOT more white people stuck in that same racist mindset...
