I have noticed something over the years watching and listening to the Hoyas games played at the MCI center. I don't believe anynone, other than maybe Iverson, had an above average shooting percentage at MCI. This it seems ,has held true for the visiting teams also. My theory on that is that it is so huge and does not have the backdrop that smaller centers built for college basketball have. I know the Hoyas don't get to practice there much , but neither do they practice on Pitts court yet they shot the lights out. Can anyone who has the statistics backup or shoot this theory down?

of you ever notice sitting close how the basket there seems to be a lot farther away and yuo can't judge distances. You go from practicing in McDonough to playing in MCI your depth perception is different. I think closer enviroments do amke teams shoot better.

Although they didn't face a tough opponent (San Jose State), some of the players were quoted saying that it's much better to play where you practice. Too bad McDonough was splitting at the seams when the Hoya Men took the floor there during the regular season.

I wrote this in the other thread but think its more appropriate in this one.
Now someone tell me if Im crazy here and I feel like it would take a lot of research but It feels like we always get more foul called against us at MCI then the other teams. I never, not once in my entire time as a student at gtown and now 2 years out have watched a game where I felt like I was watching a home game. I mean I realize fan wise we are outnumbered always which is a shame, but I really always get Editeded at the refs at some point in the game. Maybe this is just gtown favoritism but this is big east basketball and I see us getting consistently hammered going down low but then getting called for touch fouls all the time. What is wrong with these refs. Also, this is a constant subject on this board, and I know its break so not a lot of kids are there, but I just dont understand how we cant get more people out to a game. I mean they should do a promotion or something cause this team is really playing their hearts out this year and I really think the difference between either coming back in some of these games or really putting a hurt on some other teams is just that there isnt a crowd to hype our players up. Also they kept mentioning on the broadcast of the game today that Rudy Gay had 60 of his friends and family at MCI to see the game. Now I know hes a local kid and I have no problem with comps, but I just dont understand if that many people can get comps for an opposing teams players that we cant have more ticket giveaways or something for our own fans. Is someone from Hoya Blue on this Board? I don't mean to criticize and I know from experience as a student that it is hard to get the university to help you guys out some time, but why arent they making more of a public effort to get people out to the games? I walk through campus sometimes before the illinois game for example when I was down in dc and I see one flyer up when we are playing the #1 team in the country. Someone needs to light a fire under students asses and get them out the game. We shouldnt have to bribe students to go to the games, but at least if there was some type of giveaway or promotion to get some kids out there for the first time then they might see how exciting it is and want to keep coming out. My last point. I have been to several games now and I see a lot less taunting and "the other team" sucks shirts etc and I know that in some ways maybe this is not such a bad thing, but i miss the days when bball games were more then just about the game. This should be about school pride. Whenever I come down there I always seem to get into some type of shouting match with opposing teams fans and I see too many people give dissaproving looks and stuff. Listen people, this is only family entertainment to a certain point. We need to get that swagger back in place at gtown where we really are cut throat and let these opposing fans know that if they come into gtown/dc wearing their UCONN crap they are gonna get yelled at! Who's with me.......

The students aren't back on campus yet, hence the small section.

Allen Iverson may have success at the MCI Center, but only as a member of the 76ers, MCI didn't open until after The Answer moved on.
The only thing that's going to bring a Georgetown Swagger back and a noisey "you can't spell suck without SU" student section is wins.
Right now, the Hoya Home Games are like Baltimore Oriole Games at Camden Yards, people are coming to see the visiting team.
I don't believe the new sports complex will bring the men's team back to campus, it's only for football-lacrosse.
