www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8445696/site/newsweekLawrence O'Donnell believes that Karl Rove is the source of the Valerie Plame leak and revealed on the McLaughlin Group that he has this information on good authority. If true, Rove would have been involved in a most serious leak of sensitive national security information and possibly guilty of perjury before a grand jury, based on his earlier denials under oath. Rove's attorney has since denied Rove's leaking of Plame's name, but confirmed that he did speak to reporters about the story. If the leak did come from Rove, one wonders whether it involves even more senior members of the Administration who are in frequent contact with him. This is one to follow during the upcoming week. With the Congressional recess and the increased focus on the White House that the SCOTUS nomination will involve, this is a story that could gain considerable traction.

There's been some speculation about this foa a while. Apparently, Rove waived his right to protection by reporters if they used him as a source, but we've seen with Judith Miller that the mere existence of such a waiver may not be enough to rule him out as a source (she said that such waivers were coerced by the employer, and therefore non-binding, or so I understand). I noted that Sen. Schumer called on Rove to make a personal denial.
It will be interesting if it turns out to be Rove, but I doubt it. I don't think people in Rove's position ever have to do the dirty work; there's always some assistant to go out and do it for you.
