I realized that we had gotten to a dangerous point when I saw that there were actual links to game 7 coverage on the freakin' front page. Give me a break already.

Cough cough...poll started by spiteful yankee fans who don't like the taste of their own medecine.
Just saying, you must have known deep down, when you poured it on thick to that one lone Sox fan in your office every time you beat us that it would come around.
Tastes great doesn't it. Keep trying to silence us. It really works. Trust me, those pleas really tug at my heartstrings.
If yankee fans, and I'm not talking about all of them obviously, but the most vocal ones, hadn't been suck jerks my entire life (think Cuse x UConn fans) then we wouldn't be having this discussion...and you wouldn't be bothered by it.

If yankee fans, and I'm not talking about all of them obviously, but the most vocal ones, hadn't been suck jerks my entire life (think Cuse x UConn fans) then we wouldn't be having this discussion...and you wouldn't be bothered by it. Hold up. I don't know about the person who started the poll but I am a Yankees fan. Not a passionate one but one nonetheless. That being said I have NEVER started a darn Yankees or baseball thread on the Hoya forums. Never. When the Yankees cleaned the Red Sox clocks for the last several years you barely heard a peep out of me because frankly what did it matter on a Hoya board? Of course I understand the concept of "OT" and how its okay every once in awhile to get away from Hoya or NCAA basketball related topics (should point out that in the past though moderators like DFW warned us to keep such off topic topics to a minimum). So I wasn't surprised that baseball fans would create a thread in which they yapped about the series that just ended. What I didn't expect though were three or more threads. What I didn't expect was DFW putting links to the 7th game on the front page (I never knew the front page could have links to anything that wasn't about Gtown bball, college basketball in general; Big East news, changes in NCAA rules and regulations, Georgetown University in general, Gtown alumni -- in the NBA or the real professional world--, Gtown recruits, etc). This is overkill and goes against the spirit of what this site is about. Weren't there a few other forums created so you guys could have endless threads started on baseball or something? I wouldn't be surprised that some of you who are so engaged in these various Sox threads are the exact same people who whined like girls when NBA playoff threads were created last spring and summer. That makes you hypocrites and very selective over what's acceptable OT discussions. Don't take it personally but just as some of you couldn't give a d--n about the NBA many of us care just as little about the Sox or baseball games that take 5 hours to end. So lets all be considerate of one another and try to limit how many of these threads pop up. And if I may be so bold lets save the front page for stories that BELONG there. I'm a regular contributor on both this board and the Rivals site board and its a shame that the pay site has more frequent and quality discussions on Hoya basketball than this free site where everyone can post for no charge. I guess that's as clear a sign as anything that the support and the interest in Gtowm hoops is painfully low.

Speaking for myself, I participate willingly in any thread...nor do I complain about the nature of any thread. I'll talk about anything and everything. However, I am also aware that people do care if the board gets cluttered. But in the off season, with painfully little news...its obvious that we want to talk about the only thing going on in sports right now. And it is a big deal...trust me...huge. If the wiz, defeating Philly, Indiana, Miami and the Spurs, won the NBA title I would expect to see a thread.
PS I love the Celtics and look forward to taking a small step forward this year as a team...I think our rookies are looking pretty darn good.

Give it a rest, MCI. There isn't much activity right now, and skipping over three threads ain't too tough. Save the righteous indignation for something meaningful.

Give it a rest, MCI. There isn't much activity right now, and skipping over three threads ain't too tough. Save the righteous indignation for something meaningful. Save it. The point was that the Sox fans could talk about their beloved team all they want but there wasn't a need for all the seperate threads. That was always an unofficial rule of law on these boards in case you hadn't noticed. Not to mention putting up links to a baseball game that doesn't involve Gtown on the front page is absurd. And lets not forget my response was to Cambridge who was initially accusing us for feeling this way because we were bitter Yankees fan. I responded to clear the air and let him know where I was coming from as did he. Case closed. Last of all I should point out that I have not posted in any of the Red Sox celebration threads with my "negativity." Despite my feelings on all the unnecessary threads I still had enough decency to not rain on this very special parade of Boston fans. This particular thread however was created as a way to protest and make fun off all the MLB threads and therefore I felt my feelings were allowed here. If Red Sox fans don't like it perhaps they should have stayed out just as I stayed out of all the pro-Red Sox threads. Fair enough?

Although we are ALL anxious about the new season, the Hoya B-Ball teams of the past few years really haven't offered us much to talk about...
I think talking about MLB won't hurt us...

That's all well and good, but why have multiple threads to talk about the same series? Is that the new emphasis of this board?

No offense, but what do the Hoya B-Ball teams of the past few years have to do with anything? That makes no sense at all, we would be talking about this season and stuff involving the current Hoya team for the most part. As for the baseball talk, if it has to be done then fine, but I agree with MCI that it should be kept to one thread as this is specifically a Georgetown Basketball talkboard. Not that there can never be anything mentioned that isn't about Georgetown Basketball, but it should probably be limited to a single thread and not advertised on the front page, just my opinion. I can certainly understand the excitement though and I could see myself doing the same thing in a similar situation, so I'm not trying to attack anyone, it's very understandable.

That makes no sense at all, we would be talking about this season and stuff involving the current Hoya team for the most part. All the other message boards I visit, they're talking about how their new guys are going to mesh with the old guys and what they're expecting this season. We really can't do that... We're heading into a brand new season with virtually 12 new players...We don't know what to expect...most of our stars were in high school next year... We don't know if we have a solid point...we have unproven post players...no good shooters...and a new system with which we have absolutely no idea how long it will take the boys to grasp...we don't know if Owens is gonna 'BEAST' this year or not...(I think he is)... our best player is a slasher who may or may not be what most of us think he is...a potential all Big-East player... Because of Esherick's system, or lack thereof, we have no idea what to look forward to...the team was poorly prepared and lacked the most basic defensive fundamentals...and couldn't hit the broad-side of a barn... I'm not knockin' the team...I'm actually optimistic...I think they have a coach now that is use to dealing with players that aren't the best athletes so they were forced to be more disciplined and value each posession... But because the history of the past 4 years doesn't leave much for us to build on or to discuss, I have absolutely no problem with talking about baseball...

The fact that we are heading into the great unknown should lead to more topics of discussion. Not less. This is a time of uncertainty but also tremendous possibilities. We should be debating who will be in the starting lineup, who we guess will win out the center spot, how effective can the offense be, which player will have a breakout year because of the new system; which player will be the key for GU's success, etc. There's lots to discuss.

Agreed, I think there's a whole lot more to discuss because of all the uncertainty and excitement surrounding the coming season.
