well, i think the fact that the girl was white is relevant in trying to understand the motive behind the comment. her race gives more legitimacy to the idea that it was just a very weird attempt at joshing around; it minimizes the chance that he was trying to belittle a marker of ethnic pride.
more importantly, the naacp is an interest group with a specific focus--its not the naap. would you fault an interest group for the handicapped that backed off its involvement in a wrongful termination case when it discovered the employee wasnt handicapped? the naacp, like all such groups, has limited resources, and has to pick its battles.

I find it funny that they assumed that she was black. It's as if they were thinking that if a Republican made a stupid comment, it must be racist.
You'd think they would check it out before spouting off.

well, i agree they should check on their facts a little bit before sticking their oar into things, but i must admit of the 3 or 4 women i've ever known named isis, all were african american. probably more of a sloppy assumption on their part than an equation of republican=racist.
