www.newsday.com/news/politics/ny-uskerr0709,0,5870660.story?coll=ny-top-headlines why kerry doesn't recognize attendance at an event like this as completely unproductive is beyond me. it is simply unacceptable for a presidential candidate to give his tacit approval to the extemperaneous remarks of a bunch of marginally-politically literate celebs. hope he raised a bunch of money, he's going to have to use it all to repair the damage done to his campaign by encouraging the characterization of him as an out of touch hollywood liberal.

Clearly Kerry's priorities are much different than yours. From Drudge:
Just hours before attending an all-star celebrity fundraising concert in New York, Dem presidential candidate John Kerry revealed how he has been too busy for a real-time national security briefing.
"I just haven't had time," Kerry explained in an interview.
Kerry made the startling comments on CNN's LARRY KING LIVE Thursday night.
KING: News of the day, Tom Ridge warned today about al Qaeda plans of a large-scale attack on the United States. Didn't increase the -- you see any politics in this? What's your reaction?
KERRY: Well, I haven't been briefed yet, Larry. They have offered to brief me. I just haven't had time.

Drudge clipped the transcript before he included Kerry's comment that he would receive the briefing today. Incidentally, a reputable news source said that Drudge is accurate less than 40% of the time, and this "news" story is reflective of that.

If he were a journalist, I'd be worried about the 40% figure. However, everyone knows what you're getting when you read the Drudge Report.
The bottom line is that it was a bad sound bite for Kerry, especially when you're going to a fundraiser with the Holloywood left later on.

well, as presented, yes its a bad sound bite, but that isn't kerry's fault. i'd also argue that many of the "stories" that drudge sets in motion eventually become difficult to trace back to him for the average viewer / reader since they are quickly disseminated through the right wing echo chamber.
even as presented, the quote still strikes me as a lot less troubling than the administration's claim that the sitting president was "too busy" to testify in front of the 9/11 commission. so i'm not exactly sure how this statement would make kerry appear unqualified to handle national security issues as compared to bush.
