I've remeber we had a pretty cool Bulldog statue in a case in the McD lobby - any chance we could mount that thing on a stand and put in somewhere near the Yard or in front of the cafeteria or put it in front of McD - seems like it is wasted where it is

a bull dog statue has been proposed for the senior gift for the last 2 years - hopefully it will get passed sometime soon

Didn't half of my class gift (2000) go to a bulldog statue for the SW Quad? Did that ever show up?

I think the 2000 class gift was for the bulldog statue in/in front of McD. It was placed in the trophy lobby until a better location was determined. (Apparently that hasn't happened yet).

I inquired about this not too long ago. I was in the class of 2000 and the bulldog statue was indeed our gift. I read in the Hoya that a bulldog statue was proposed for the class of 2004 (I think) and so I asked why the heck another one would be commissioned. I was informed that the Class of 2000 Jack will be installed in front of the new convocation center when that eventually happens. Now, when we donated that, we were under the impression that the convocation center would be completed by this year, so who knows when that will ever happen. Parenthetically, I never got a good response as to why the development officer who shepparded the class of 2004's gift didn't know that we had already donated a bulldog statue to the university.

Didn't the Class of 2004 end up donating a clock? It's either the one in Red Square or the one next to the GUTS stop by Leo's if I'm remembering this correctly.

This would be far beyond an impossible turn around time from conception to approval to completion for a project of even half the scope and magnitude of a convocation center.

Both Lang and Esh discussed doing this in the Hoya at the time. There were even feasibility studies done. It didn't seem that remote as dates were publicly discussed.

Didn't the class of '98 or '99 do the Red Square clock? I seem to remember a Steward society guy's death prompted it, as it has a plaque honoring him at its foot.

I thought the 2004 gift was, and was always intended to be, a "bulldog clock".
I remember the day I saw the announcement of a "bulldog clock" class gift in The Hoya, and I thought it sounded goofy. The image I had, however, was of a clock embedded within a bulldog statue. However, what was meant by a "bulldog clock" was a clock with a picture of a bulldog in it. That's what is now outside of Leo's. I think it looks pretty good...
2005 was the landscaping of the Canal St. entrance, right? And then last year's was the park outside of Reiss?

there is no, nor has there been, a plan to build a convocation center so why would the 2000 sr. class comm think that one was going to be built at all much less within six years. However it was part of the 2000 campus plan. I know it has been discussed and is slated after the other building priorities on campus -- MSB, Science Building, Multi-Sport, etc. Here is an excerpt from the plan: The Plan supports the University’s athletic and student life goals of providing athletic fields and facilities of sufficient number and quality in relative proximity, to allow the athletics department to compete effectively within its sports divisions and to provide students with the opportunity for informal play. General strategies to achieve these goals are:
o Increase the functionality of existing facilities and planned facilities. o Increase the utilization of facilities. o Develop facilities that support Title 9 requirements. o Develop facilities that meet NCAA requirements.
The plan calls for the redesign of Harbin Field into a multi-sport field that meets NCAA regulations for football, soccer, and lacrosse. The redesigned Harbin field supports the integration of athletics into campus life by allowing for more varsity sports to play in the center of campus. The inclusion of programmatic space in the associated field house allows McDonough Gymnasium to update its facility to increase its functionality. The women’s softball field located in the southwestern edge of campus, creates a new play opportunity for the campus. So it seems that until the Multi-Sport complex is completed that there will be no movement on McDonough due to the programmatic needs necessary to support all of our sports programs. One side note, I'm not sure anyone expected the legal wrangling over the campus plan with the neighbors to tie up the plan until late last year. I'm pretty sure that was when the majority of the legal fighting ended ... although portions still continue. But somebody else can correct me on this point.

The '06 class gift was Reis park improvements. Unfortunately, there have been a series of similarly bureaucratic delays that prevented it from being completed (or started for that matter) by homecoming.

That was the 06 gift? Man am I glad I directed mine to the Hoop Club. I thought the booths in Hoya Court would be nicer.

2004 gave the clock that stands at the GUTS stop by Leo's. 2005 gave a piano in Davis, the "gift wall" (that lists past classes' gifts) in Leavey, a flagpole for Rigby, our classmate who died in a fire.
The clock in Red Square was donated by the Stewards in memory of an alum.

I think that clock in Red Square was ALSO a class gift -- something like they didn't raise enough money and the Stewards stepped in and cover the rest in return for the plaque. I remember Hoya reporters taking pictures of those at the dedication in the hopes of outing a Steward or two.
What will the flag pole look like? I always thought the current one was pretty shabby. Whenever I visited my friend at Columbia, I was jealous of their ornate flag pole.

No word on where it'll be or what it/the flag will look like. However, we had a rather inept Senior Class Gift Committee, so who knows.

I thought about that - and then I thought - no this was definitely someone's job at facilities and they haven't done it for over 15 years - that sort of dedication needs to be memorialized.
