About 250 people attended the conference and organizers seemed pleased with the event. No protestors on Saturday, with the exception of one disruption, and only a few dozen protestors on Sunday (all were not affiliated with Georgetown, but rather the Jewish Defense League vs. a group of Hasidic Jews from New York). The Jerusalem Post had a brief article this morning: www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1139395439331&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFullCorrection: it was a group of Orthodox Jews: hkusa.org/

Agreed. The protests were very small. Various web sites and blogs had anywhere from 200 to as many as 800 demonstrators coming. Some dude on his web blog said something about helium balloons and blimps with anti-PSM rhetoric. I wasn't interested in taking part in the conference or the protests but I did swing by campus to check it all out. I was actually kind of disappointed. No blimps and just a few people carrying signs. In the end, I would say there were maybe a total of 30 protesters. But, what was funny was, there was a group of rabbis in favor of the conference and they did a good job shouting down the folks from JDL and the other conference protesters. One anti-PSM guy had a flag of Israel, draped around himself. Kind of disrespectful to the flag I thought. At one point on Sunday, another anti-PSM guy was yelling into a megaphone. He was screaming in people's ears as they walked by and was eventually escorted off the campus.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency had a good article today about the Conference and pro-Israel programming on campus over the weekend. It also has a nice quote from David Friedman, the regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, commending Georgetown's efforts in "making the atmosphere comfortable for Jews and the conference open to the public." jta.org/page_print_story.asp?intarticleid=16331&intcategoryid=3

Agreed SirSaxa. Just wanted to bring attention to it in light of some of the allegations and falsehoods that are being spread in the blogosphere. In particular, there seems to be two individuals that enjoy spreading their "propaganda."

As annoying as DOPS could be, I could never ever see them becoming violent unless someone else became violent first. Anyone else? Most of the DOPS folks were actually pretty cool unless you were breaking crap. That was 6-10 years ago, though.

Most of the DOPS folks were actually pretty cool unless you were breaking crap. That was 6-10 years ago, though. The general opinion of DOPS officers is that they are real chill. Aka, they're only going to get physical if you deserve it. My thought is b/c they're too lazy to throw down unless absolutely necessary (not that I would have a different attitude if that was my job). And pretty much everyone of my friends agreed w/ this when we were talking about the pic of some Living Wage guy getting manhandled by DOPS on the cover of the Hoya. If DOPS is getting violent, you deserve what you get.

I remember there being an awesome pic somewhere with a DPS guy sleeping in his patrol car outside front gates. Does anyone remember where that came from?
