I think we should all campaign to get Joey into Georgetown. After winning the gold medal yesterday in the 500m speed skating event, he donated his $25,000 bonus (for gold) to Boss Koss's charity. Now he is giving up speed skating at 26 and going back to school. He was rejected by Harvard, but hopes that Georgetown, among others, accepts him. We can't let Duke have him. Imagine the skating team we can have.
From the WP:
Within an hour of achieving that dream, Joey Cheek let it go. He'll retire from speedskating after these Olympics, he announced, and enroll in college in the fall to study economics. Harvard rejected his early-decision application, apprehensive about his 10-year hiatus from formal schooling. He's hoping Columbia, Georgetown, New York University, North Carolina or Duke comes through.

Boy, he should have waited to apply to Harvard until AFTER he won the gold medal. I bet we, and the other schools on this list, take him -- unless his academics are a mess for some reason.

In one article I read, he claims he scored an 800 on SAT verbal and 1400+ overall...not too shabby

Yeah, it sounds to me as if we may have to change the focus of the campaign to convincing Joey to select Georgetown.

Adds to his resume with a silver in the 1000m. Beaming like he won the gold. Get this kid to Georgetown!

Might help. Although I would not be surprised to see Joey Golden Boy Wheaties Box capitalize on his newfound status and perhaps play the field a bit, nicest guy in the world though he may be. He will almost certainly never have better opportunities.

Odds on us being able to get him to play for the club ice hockey team? 5-1? 10-1? Somebody needs to make this happen.
It'll be just like in the Mighty Ducks movies when they convinced Kenny Wu, the little former figure skater, to play hockey because he could skate so well, only, like, times 1000.

Yes, work on this angle. It sounds like a winner.

Well, I read that Joey was accepted by Georgetown, but also Princeton and a few others, but not Harvard. Since his girlfriend goes top GW(?), does that make us the front runner. Jack, any information on this?
