"The athletic village would be built on about 24 blocks of property north of the football and basketball stadiums that the university is working to acquire."
How much do think 24 blocks in Georgetown would cost?

In total, he's donated more than $290 million, including funding of the Boone Pickens School of Geology and contributions to numerous endowments for scholarships, fellowships and professorships. That would be nice...

GU has numerous alumni/parents who could make a gift of that size. None have stepped forward with a gift of this magnitude yet, though.

Yes, numerous. I don't have time to do research but off of the top of my head: Charles Crawley, Bill Bidwell, Michael Heisley, Donald Trump (parent), Saad al-Hariri, Ted Leonsis, Jim Walton (parent), Teresa Heinz (parent), Michael Eisner (parent) . . . . and that's seriously not even close to being comprehensive.

Throw in the Thyssen's + Brenninkmayers(6 members of family at least are GU alums) from europe at $3bn+ each and several US hedge fund guys at 2bn+. That's just a few that I know personally--I bet we're just scratching the surface--we need some big ideas and a real credible figure to even have a chance to pry really big gifts from these types of people

From what I can tell, we are getting much better at fundraising. However, we have a lot of catchup to do. Appealing to this cadre of alumni and family is difficult. People are more willing to donate if they believe in the purpose, mission and direction of a school (in an apolitical way).
Ok I'm rambling...
