The Post had an article over the weekend on movies filmed in DC at www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/25/AR2005082501602.htmlThe write-up midentioned "All the President's Men" and "Advise & Consent" as well as "Wedding Crashers." They attempted to compile a list of lesser-heralded movies filmed in DC as recommendations. Their list: Bob Roberts D.C. Cab Earth vs. the Flying Saucers Protocol Watch on the Rhine The Werewolf of Washington I figured it might make a good topic here if people continued their list with their own selections.

Of course, The Exorcist. Scenes of The Pelican Brief were filmed in DC. On one visit to DC, we were staying at the Key Bridge Marriott. My wife saw Julia Roberts, who was in town filming the PB, as she was crossing Key Bridge to Georgetown.

Although I haven't seen it, National Treasure was apparently shot in DC. And in Enemy of the State, Will Smith's character lives in Georgetown, and there is a nice scene of him rowing on the Potomac with the Key Bridge as the backdrop. It's the exact spot where I often used to row myself with my teammates when I did crew freshman year. ;D

The cool part about that movie though was that the main character, played by Nicholas Cage, actually mentions at one point that he's a Georgetown grad, and he proves to be a very wise man as the movie progresses (prompting me to point out to my friend all movie long "see, he figured that out because he went to Georgetown... they teach us that sorta thing there.")

The Recruit is set in DC. Colin Ferrel and Bridget Moynahan both live in Georgetown.

The Pelican Brief has several scenes on GU's law campus. There is a scene from Deep Impact filmed in Sequoia. My favorite Washington-set movie is Minority Report. Granted, it is the D.C. of the future, but the climax is in the currrent-day Willard complex.

My buddy and I were the sixth and seventh in line to be extras when Spielberg filmed a scene in "Minority Report" at The Gap on Wisconson Ave. They only took four.

GUSA is going to be filming a movie here at Gtown. And no, I'm not kidding. "The movie will attempt to be for Georgetown similar to what Rudy is for Notre Dame" gusa.georgetown.edu/news/050902.html(you have to scroll down a bit)

How could this list go this long without mention of St Elmo's Fire? Are you kidding me? Even if they did use UMDCP and pretended it was our campus, they still filmed in front of 3rds and on the canals. some others... True Lies, i walked into yates with Arnold while he was filming that No Way Out & A Few Good Men both had scenes in Georgetown

St. Elmo's Fire led to one of the great moments in Center Pub history when Rob lowe tried to cut the line and was told to wait. he said, "but i'm Rob Lowe, the Actor." He was told, great "I'm the doorman and there's the line."

True Lies, i walked into yates with Arnold while he was filming that No Way Out & A Few Good Men both had scenes in Georgetown Some guys on my hall went down around Georgetown Park to try to be extras in the chase scenes after the restroom shooutout. I was riding the G2 bus going toward Dupont Circle where it takes that block or two stretch on Wisconsin and saw Arnold driving his Hummer. Another friend of mine who was fairly local wound up figuring out the locals who rented their house to them and confirmed it one day walking by. I always had a question about one DC movie that I saw on cable right after it made the jump to HBO. Were some of the Metro scenes in No Way Out actually filmed in the less busy (since it doesn't go anywhere from what I can tell) Baltimore Metro?

I hate to be so negative, but written, directed, produced and acted like GUSA? Are they aware of the work and effort that goes into even a crappy movie? We've got St. Elmo's Fire and the Exorcist. What historical stories would you use? Thompson? The late sixties (WGTB, riots)? The class of '68? Earlier things seem a bit ... out of touch with what current students would expect.

While it is not strictly a "movie," the "Commencement" Episode of the West Wing (Season 4, Ep 22) featured some great shots of the University itself, including inside Healy Hall and graduation in front of Healy. It's always fun to watch that scene again, especially since unlike my graduation, it is actually sunny!

At my graduation, they had to pass out bottled water and a couple of people were in bad shape -- thick black robe, humidity, 100 degree heat and sun is a bad combo. I was basically done for the day I was so dehydrated.

Guys, here is your chance: Want to breathe the same air as Nicole Kidman for a day or two? Producers of her new movie "The Visiting," filming here and in Baltimore for the next 45 days, are looking for extras. To try out, show up at 10 a.m. Saturday at One Judiciary Square with résumé, recent photo and a pen.
