Class of 2005 Breaks Records for Giving
The senior class gift program of 2005 was the most successful in Georgetown’s history, breaking all Georgetown records for participation. In fact, Georgetown’s 81 percent participation rate places the senior class gift program near the top of such programs for U.S. colleges and universities this year.
The program raised $38,245, with seniors giving an average gift of $30.43. More than 130 seniors chose to become Presidential Counselor Associate donors by giving more than $100 to the class gift. Giving at that level has risen sharply in the last three years, with 120 members of the class of 2004 joining the PCA, compared to 53 in 2003 and 6 in 2002.
The senior class funded three class gifts, a donor recognition wall to be located in the Leavey Center; a piano for the Royden B. Davis Performing Arts Center, which will open this fall; and a memorial flagpole in memory of Daniel Rigby (B’05), who died in a fire last October. Donors also had the option to designate their gift to financial aid, athletics, or a student organization.
Senior class gift co-chairs Meghan Sullivan (C’05) and David Cooper (C’05) worked hard to raise the participation rate to meet a parent challenge that promised an additional $10,000 for the class gift fund if the seniors broke the participation record.
