Hey now, if I work hard, I'm sure I'll get as tubby as you one day. Don't doubt me yet, Buff!

It should be a Micheal Jordon Steak House to remind us that we lost in 1983.

It should be a Micheal Jordon Steak House to remind us that we lost in 1983. How soon they forget...it was 1982. Nonetheless, it's still one of the five greatest games in Final Four history, along with UNC's 3OT game in 1957 and probably the UCLA-NC State game in 1974. Also in the running: Mich. St.-Indiana State in 1979, UNLV-Duke in 1991, and the '66 final between UTEP and UK.

Getting back to the point - I talked to a Georgetown administrator about the restaraunt going into Darnall - they said that it is not a Fudds and that nothing has been finalized yet - but it will be a restaraunt.

According to the minutes of the last GUSA meeting that I was at the restaraunt in Darnall will be a TGI Fridays and not a Fudds - the only details to be worked out are insurance and traffic flow issues and then the deal will be announced - the restaraunt should be open by November or December.

That's not bad. At least it will be opening in the not-too-distant future. Plus I think TGI Fridays are moderately priced which is important, and hopefully the influx of new places to eat on campus forces the folks at Leos to improve a bit.

I'd be somewhat suspicious of a mid-November opening date, particularly if they're going to renovate both the kitchen and the dining area. (Just shifting Marriott out and replacing it with very similar fast food eateries took most of the summer, by comparison).
If this is in fact going forward, I'd think a January opening sounds a little more likely.
On the other hand, if it is a Fridays, I hope that there is plenty of Hoya "flair" for the waiters and waitresses to wear.

I believe that the kitchens and other areas that were in the bottom floor of Darnall have been completely taken out and the area is now just a giant empty space - anything that was usable is now somewhere in Leos.

I figure the GU TGI Friday's will be smaller, much better quality, and a good number of GW students will wish they could have gotten a table there instead of the one on I Street, and will get really irrationally Editeded off if anybody brings it up in conversation. Because they think the patrons at the GU one are really arrogant and probably spend all day bragging to themselves about how much better the food is, yet then they spend most Friday and Saturday nights going to the general vicinity of it to hang out. Because really, you can have a great manager at your TGI Friday's who spends all kinds of money putting up new pieces of flair on the walls and building new annexes to put extra tables in over the objections of the neighbors, and the place can LOOK nice and be great if, say, you wanted to just visit the adult bar for some "adult beverages" rather than the normal seating area...but if the basic burger just isn't as good, then why even bother, right? Just go to the one in Darnall. Just don't get the chicken and cheese skillet. That thing's nasty.

Completely agreed on the skillet. However, if you have had a few too many adult beverages the Friday's Desert menu is incredible.

Is Friday's on campus anywhere else now (the GW one sounded like it wasn't actually on campus?)
I know the Chili's Too restaurant plan on campuses (often in student centers or converted dining halls) has an abbreviated menu and possibly no alcohol (not totally sure about that one but the one I am familiar with are at public schools in the south so probably so).
Has anyone been to the Bill Bateman's Bistro on campus at Towson? I've only been to the Joppa Rd. location but the one on campus looked like a good location.

Not usually a wings kind of guy, but I tried their Old Bay wings my last trip up there - play trivia on Tuesday nights with some friends of my fiancee's sister when I'm in town. I'll be living in Baltimore by December at the earliest and May at the latest. If you have any other suggestions for food, sportsbars or anything else let me know. I'll be living in the White Marsh/Perry Hall area.

An editorial about the Darnall Dining Hall replacement was in the Hoya this week. I won't link the article because it was more of a vieled editorial advocating The Corp be given the space, eventhough they have no current plans to create a restaraunt and have made no offer for the space. It just goes to show how having a number of people from the Corp's Board of Directors sitting on the editorial staff of The Hoya can really influence the amount of coverage that you get.
I have heard from a reliable source that the deal with TGI Fridays still exists, but the only thing holding it up is the University's concerns about TGI Fridays not paying its employees a living wage - which IMO could easily be solved by hiring students and paying them using the Federal Works Study program. TGI Fridays will apparently take the Georgetown student meal plan as well.

When I was at school, the Corp misplaced $20,000.
Let's just say I'd vote for a real company. The Corp is nice for a school activity, but hardly professional.
