According to its omission on dining.georgetown.edu, there will be no Darnall next year. While I lament its passing (especially the lady who made those grilled sandwiches every day - what is her name?), I am excited that it seems that the space is closed and being shopped around to investors as a restaraunt space. So the question is what should go in there? I think the smart way to go is to call up Clydes Corp. and ask them to do something there, since this new restaraunt/bar will be in immediate rivalry with The Tombs - a GU tradition. Of the options I have up here I think American is the most likely (and unimaginative), and Mexican and Sea Food are 100 to 1 shots.

In the 1980's, the cafeteria was populated by only three groups: the 6 floors of Darnall, the 4 from St. Mary's (still all-female), and the medical school/hospital crowd. (It was rare that anyone from the rest of campus trekked up there.)
After the arrival of Leavey, the medical/hospital staff gravitated there, and after St. Mary's turned into offices the end was probably near.
Like most things Georgetown, it will likely become offices, building towards the day when more people work at Georgetown than actually study there.

I don't think it will become offices in this case - the university has already said that it wants to work with an outside vendor to put a restaraunt in Darnall. It certainly would spruce up the D Block. www2.georgetown.edu/my/stories/index.cfm?Action=View&StoryID=1139

I heard from a friend that it's supposed to become a Fuddrucker's and will serve alcohol. We'll see.
That would be pretty cool, but my worry is that it'll make Leo's WAY overcrowded as the only campus cafeteria. It's already crowded enough as it is. If you eliminate Darnall... help me God. I guess I'll cook more.

I agree. However, a Fudds would be awesome because there isn't one near campus and they have awesome burgers (as a student-athelete-friend of mine can attest to ....). I think you'd be surprised how Leo's could handle students if all of Mariot's resources were there.

I also hope this doesn't cut into 5 Guys' market share. They do good stuff.

I was really hoping for a 24-hour diner that served alcohol during the appropriate hours. Something like a Friendly's or IHOP with booze until 2 AM, then you can get omelettes and cheese fries thereafter. Since 5 Guys replaced Au Pied, there has not been any place quite like that in Georgetown.

That place was fantastic. Nothing like a beer and western omlette at 5 am.

Outside of my group of four or so late night sloths, I don't think I ever saw GU people there late. Which is too bad, its a great place for late night if you're up for the small hike there.

GU Diner is still there - but the only people that really know about it are Burlieth residents - I've only been there once and it was during the summer that I lived in Burlieth.

Until now I always scoffed at older Alumni who said that the curriculum had gotten lax and that students simply weren't covering the basics anymore. Consider me converted...these undergrads don't know their heads from their #$%*#$ if they haven't found the Georgetown Diner. Color me disappointed.

Amen, 'bridge. Amen. Seriously... what is better than a Coors Light and eggs benedict with a side of hashbrowns after a night of rabble-rousin'?
