Georgetown Names George G. Daly Dean of McDonough School of Business
Georgetown University today named George G. Daly Dean of the Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business. As Dean, Daly will oversee operations of the McDonough School, which includes highly ranked undergraduate, MBA and International Executive MBA programs, more than 1900 students, 150 full and part-time faculty, and approximately 60 staff.
“Professor Daly brings to Georgetown a strong record of leadership in business education, a deep commitment to providing outstanding educational opportunities for students and a robust support for faculty scholarship, and an imaginative vision for the future of the McDonough School of Business,” said Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia.
Daly is currently the Albert Fingerhut Professor of Business Administration at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University (NYU), where he served as Dean from 1993 to 2002. As Dean of the Stern School, Daly oversaw the school’s rise in national prominence as it achieved its first top-ten ranking for all of its undergraduate and graduate degree programs. He also led the school’s most ambitious fundraising campaign in history, raising $150 million.
Prior to his appointment at NYU, Professor Daly was Dean and Professor of the College of Business Administration at the University of Iowa and Dean of the College of Social Sciences at the University of Houston. He previously held teaching appointments at Miami University and the University of Texas at Austin. In 1974 he served as chief economist in the Office of Energy Research and Development at The White House and from 1977 to 1979 he was Assistant Director of the Institute for Defense Analyses.
“I am excited to have this opportunity to join the Georgetown community and work with talented faculty, staff and students to enhance the McDonough School’s standing among the nation’s top business schools,” said Daly.
A distinguished scholar, Daly’s academic interests include applied microeconomics, economics of organizations and contracting, and leadership. He is widely published in both academic and popular journals and has authored several research reports for government agencies. Daly holds an undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio and a master’s and doctoral degree from Northwestern University – all in economics.
Daly’s appointment concludes a national search process. He succeeds Reena Aggarwal, who has served as Interim Dean for the 2004-2005 academic year. She will return to the faculty of the McDonough School.
