At yesterday's Senior Day ceremony, the Georgetown Football Parents Association presented a check to the Gridiron Club in the amount of $ 12,885.
Thank you to the parents, alumni and friends who contrituted in recognition of our senior class.

I've shared my opinion on Hoyatalk this season, bluntly on a couple occasions with regards to how badly the seniors have been treated. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout for the game...much better than expected, and I'd like to thank all those who came out to support the seniors on their last day. The cheerleaders, band members, and students that attended are to be commended. It was also great to see several of the recent football alums supporting their former mates.
Also thanks to the GFPA for sponsoring the tailgates this year and for promoting this Senior Day event. The $$ raised for the Gridiron Club will go to a good purpose, and those leading the effort, such as Phil Newman, should be commended. I'd also like to thank DFW and the HoyaSaxa Football site for great effort in keeping the fans informed this season, and over the years.
Finally, this wouldn't be a proper Massdad2 post if I didn't get in a dig about "what might have been". Stat of the day: Senior Darrin Craft led the team in tackles. Good sign when rovers are making hits versus safeties... too bad they waited until Senior Day to get him on the field.
ps BTW, to clarify, I'm not the "Massdad" from Ware, MA...don't want Mr. B taking shots for anything I have to say.

Thanks, massdad2. Your statistic about Darren Craft got me looking more closely at the defensive numbers. There were four seniors who were given much more playing time on Saturday than throughout this long season. They were Darren Craft, Mike Shotwell, Mike Greene and Steve Smith. Based on the total number of tackles, these four (who played various amounts of time on Saturday) accounted for nearly 25% of the tackles. Even more interesting is that based on solo tackles, these four accounted for more than 35% of those hits. Plus one of them was a TFL which is not common for players who line up off the line of scrimmage.
I'm not sure what that means, but it sure does raise a question or two in my mind. Oh well, on to 2008 and the very best of luck to next year's Hoyas and particulary to the Class of 2009. I hope your final season produces better memories than those of the Class of 2008.
