If HC can hang up 35 on that defense, I will annoint them kings of the PL. Everyone is discounting the Bucknell offense because the QB is a "Rookie". The simple explanation is that the Georgetown defense pounded the Bison and the QB especially. Sure, if the Hoyas cough up the ball a few times inside the 20, anything can happen. But with that defense, they should always be "in the game".

I don't know Pop, at least not yet, how good the D is. They did look good but it was against a very one-dimensional offense. They were only forced to deal with the run. HC apparently throws the ball well. Hopefully they'll be able to dominate a more balanced offense as well. I hope they can effectively address some of the problems they had against Bucknell this past week. Too many dropped passes, fumbled punt snap, poor snap on the game winning field goal (thank goodness for the great play by the holder). Good thing our holder was better than their holder. They had a bad snap on the fg attempt to end the game in regulation and fortunately their holder couldn't handle it. Fortunately when faced with the same situation, our guy could.

First, kudos for mentioning the holder. That was Keith Allan who could have let his disappointment at losing the QB job affect his play. Instead, he made a spectacular recovery under intense pressure and Eric Bjonerud showed his total confidence in him by keeping his concentration while Keith was manipulating the ball.
I take some exception to your characterization of the Bucknell offense being "one dimensional". Yes, their passing game was weak, but their running game is so multi-dimesional that it requires remarkable discipline. When a defense can stay under control,"stay home" and still physically beat up whomever ends up carrying the ball, they have played a wonderful game.
Play of the night may have been made by Alex Buzbee. On fourth and two inside the 20, Bucknell runs a bootleg with that very quick QB. Buzbee, despite being perhaps the most physical player on that defense, ignores the fake, stays put and buries him. When he and the rest of that defense can play against a normal offense and really go after them, I think they will be just fine.
Finally, I would agree that there is legitimate concern over the play of the DBs. The good news is that they were always around the receiver--the bad news is that they made mistakes when the ball arrived. Hopefully that can be improved this week.

Good observations... Kieth Allen deftly handled the placement on the last play of the game, and don't forget Hassan... it seemed like every time the QB pitched to #30 our guy was there waiting for him...

Anyone know if Benson is going to get Keith Allen involved in the offense at all? We heard a lot about his athleticism and speed - I wonder if there's a role for him as a "Slash" type player. I can't say he lit up the field last year, but he was playing hurt, as I recall.
Though maybe I'm getting ahead of myself on Cangelosi - one good half of football does not an entrenched quarterback make.
Hassan was right there with Buzbee and Oni in snuffing out the BU offense. The pursuit was absolutely rabid.

Though maybe I'm getting ahead of myself on Cangelosi - one good half of football does not an entrenched quarterback make. While I certainly have no real information, I would think that your statement above is the real story. The Hoyas are in an excellent position having someone like Keith Allan as an available QB. Just read today's releases from Bucknell and the value of a quality back-up QB jumps right out at you. Apparently, that sophomore from Bucknell got his jaw broken last Saturday. I feel for the young man--he impressed me. Also, Georgetown has a lot more speed available this year, so I suspect that Keith's value in any other role would pale in comparison to the security he provides at QB. This is simply my opinion. Watch, just because I wrote this, the OC will line Keith up in the slot on the first play vs. Holy Cross. ;D
