Not to come off as a front runner, but I've got a dolllar that says the defense comes out ahead of the offense on Sat. Any contributors?

I agree....
The defense only loses one starter from last year, while the offense has some major holes to fill at every position.
Not to mention that the defensive line is among the best, if not the best, in the Patriot league with Buzbee and Onanibaku at the ends and Griauzde in the middle. Only thing missing for the defense in the spring game will be the presence of Mehdi Hassan who has missed springball.
The offense on the otherhand doesn't have a clearcut QB or much experience at WR. Should be interesting to see how they match up on Saturday. Regardless of the outcome for the offense, one thing i personally hope that comes out of the spring game is an idea of who the starting quarterback will be in '05, as this has been the area of controversy the past few years.
Good luck to both sides!

The D will not be the issue, nor was it last year. The o has to at least move the ball, eat some clock, and give a few points. the D will do the rest.

Traditionally the defense has always looked better in spring ball than the offense. In general, they "game plan" and know all of the offensive plays which are in and due to the limited amount of time there aren't many plays in.
It usually takes a little more time for the timing of the offense to hit and for all players to be on the same page than it does for the defense. Defensive recognition and reading the offense on an individual and team basis is more natural than is coordinating the timing of a quarterback, running backs, wideouts and a tight end. In the short end the defense has the advantage, but with more practice time and repetition the offense will catch up. I don't think it is necessarily fair to judge the performance of the offense solely on spring performance vs the defense but rather to judge how quickly the offense progresses. The goal should be to improve timing and identify who fits the best at the various skill positions in a relatively short period of time.

Sounds like the whining of a former offensive player to me By the way, if you are who I think you are, I'm really impressed by your donation to the MSF. Hopefully it won't be too long before we can all do that sort of thing.

Doesn't the bookstore carry them anymore? I think it is gone now, but there used to be a great Georgetown store down by Georgetown Market, plus while you're there you can pick up some Boone's Farm...

I think Yates Pro Shop sells them (as well as the bookstore). Not sure why they don't show up on the new GUHoyas.com online store, but it looks like they currently carry gear for the Spring sports, and it could be that they haven't yet rolled out the fall sport items.

Whining? Come on, I wasn't whining. Sorry if I came across that way. I did play every season on offense, but did spend one spring playing defense so I think my account is more towards the truthful side rather than taking sides with and supporting the offense more so than the defense. I can honestly say that I picked up what was happening on defense during spring ball quicker than I did during all of camp when learning wide receiver and then learning fullback.
Thanks for the comment on the MSF donation, but I didn't do it to impress anyone but rather to help support the football program and athletic department who helped support me while I was on the Hilltop. I don't think I could ever write a check large enough to repay everyone who helped me get through 4 very difficult years. I'm somewhat certain that had it not been for the friends (or rather brothers) I made coupled with the emotional support of the coaching staff that I would not have made it to where I am now. You can't really put a price tag on that.
It would be great to get more, large donations for the MSF, but just as important are gifts of any size to the Gridiron Club. The money givent to the Gridiron Club goes directly to supporting all of the operations of the football program: salaries, uniforms and equipment, video equipment...just about any football-related expense. Roughly 20-25% of the yearly football budget comes from the money raised by the Gridiron Club, and our budget is well, WELL below all other Patriot League opponents.
Donations can be made online through Hoyas Unlimited or by mailing in a check. Online donations can be made in a lump sum, or via the G-Club in which a credit card is charged a set amount monthly. Ten dollars or more a month can go a long way, and I don't think that would really break anyone's bank.
If you are intersted in learning more about giving to the Gridiron Club please feel free to email me with any questions at Mikeyro09@mac.com.
Thank you, Mike Romaszka, B '99

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I live in Texas and so it would need to probably be an online order, though I guess phone would work. Hopefully they will start selling it in the summer.

The Spring Game was exactly like the two previous scrimmages. The offense played the defense. Everyone gets a lot of playing time and my understanding is that a lot of personnel decisions are made as they evaluate the tapes between now and August. As someone said a few weeks ago, spring ball is the first real opportunity for the current freshmen (rising sophomores) to show their stuff. I was at Saturday's game and will post my observations as soon as this crazy Monday is over. I really don't take myself that seriously, but I haven't seen anyone else posting about these scrimmages.

LBPop, I for one very much appreciate your candor and impressions of GU Football. You maintan the fine line of fair and accurate impressions while still giving things a positive spin. I thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts on this site.

Re Windshield kick that LB Pop referenced. I was the "lucky" fan. Once I figured where I could fix it on a Saturday (most glass shops closed by noon, and none of them do the "drive to you service" on weekends), I calmed down and had too make light of the situation. Both my boys played baseball growing up, and I always knew where NOT to park my car to avoid getting hit...I never gave a thought about where to park during football season. I had a chance to talk to the kicker Eric after the game, and told him that I wouldn't hold it against him, as long as he made all his kicks in a similar fashion during the season...told him to visualize my car and hit the same spot every time he lines up for a kick...

Glad you were able to take that Saturday afternoon spoiler in stride. That really would have cramped my style for the rest of the afternoon.
The real question, however, is: Did you find and/or keep the football in question?

I didn't even know it happened until after the scrimmage. My son was on the field for the play, and after the kick I saw him lingering in the end zone and acting strange...I thought he was talking to the ref, but he was actually looking at the car and trying to get my attention. At the end of the game he tells me "Gee Dad, too bad that you car windshield got smashed" to which I reply "Huh?...What???... Doh!!!" Then the scramble began...
