Has this started yet? I imagine if it hasn't that is should be soon...
I know there used to be practices on the morning after St. Patrick's Day, and that is coming up...
Anyone with info, please keep us posted.

The boys have had two practices prior to spring break and will resume on Tuesday, the 15th. I believe their spring game is on Aril 9th .

Any word on how those went? I've always thought that freshmen don't quite "get it" until spring ball. The fall is such a whirlwind, and that is what makes this time of year so important.

I have no news about the first two practices other than it was unbelievably cold. Didn't need any inside information to know that. I do agree with the comment about freshmen--just three weeks in August to prepare for D-I football and dealing with typical early college challenges can be overwheming.
A little more detail about spring practice. Yes, they resume on the 15th. There is a scrimmage set for the 19th and for April 2nd. These are scheduled for early morning--after an 8:00 AM practice. Then, as has been said, the spring game is set for April 9th. I think that's in the morning too. Of course, all this is subject to change. Hopefully one of the websites will post the official schedule.

Makes sense to me. Why not tear up the natural grass since it will be removed for the new turf.

There is a rumor...as yet unconfirmed...that there will be a scrimmage Sunday afternoon on the grass field at Harbin. I will post more details if I get them. Please, don't make a long drive based on this information. I don't want to read a bunch of nasty stuff about me on this board next Monday.

OK, I saw the scrimmage today at 2. the D did great but the O also put numbers up. Great performances by Cangelosi and Marcus Slayton.

Keith Allan also seemed to be moving real well. He was hurt most of last year even though he started the early games. Another bright spot was Kyle Van Fleet. He has been moved from LB to receiver (sort of a slot type receiver, I think) and should make a real impact. He looks fast and strong.

I think the Saturday practice noted on the Hoya Saxa website is tentatively set as a scrimmage. Should be the last one before the spring game. If I'm right, I hope a few brave fans will wake up early enough to take a look.

I believe the boys scrimmaged yesterday.
Was wondering how things looked. It would be nice to hear from someone who may have attended.

I did get by the Gonzaga field yesterday. They have the same turf that is being installed at Harbin. It looks great--like perfectly manicured natural grass. I did notice some turf burns on a few players, but it didn't seem to be a big deal.
Here are some observations about the scrimmage. The style of offense looked the same as 2004. Allan ran with the first team and Cangelosi did not suit up--I assume he is hurt. Allan is fast, athletic and fearless. He broke off a few excellent runs and the offense ran more smoothly than I remember. There were not a lot of passes attempted and few were deeper than 10 yards. Part of the reason was that the defense forced the QB to run rather than throw the pass that was called. I did not recognize the other QB.
The two primary running backs looked very good at times. Davis runs low, hard and decisively. He sees the hole and hits it. I have a bias against dancers...even Barry Sanders. Slayton also looked good and, as has been noted elsewhere, Sarin did not suit up. If Kim is healthy, contrary to a post on a different thread, I would like to see him used less, but more strategically. He broke down a bit late last season and started to fumble. He is a warrior, but 11 games of giving away all that weight has got to take its toll. With what I saw of Slayton and Davis, the Hoyas can be more selective with Kim.
Now for the real story. Despite the bright spots that I noted, the offense was not consistent--this scrimmage was about the defense. They looked excellent and deep. They were running people in and out, especially at LB. I didn't really notice which group had the most success, but the 'D' controlled the scrimmage for the most part. Several tackles for losses and some solid hitting. I suspect that the Hoya offense will not face a better defense all next season than their own 1st 'D'. It's got to make them better.
Oh well, sorry I went on like this, but I think the Spring game will be a great way to spend next Saturday afternoon...as long as the weather cooperates.

The new QB is Matt Bassuener. Very fast runner I think. I have heard many people say this but our receivers and our running backs carry the O.

who are the best receivers this year? Castergine, the TE. WR was one of the big holes last year.

I've heard a couple of guys from the team mention that WR Kyle Van Fleet has really been having a great spring. Other than that, there hasn't been too much talk about the wideouts --- quite a few of them are injured right now (Saunders, Ekechuku, etc)
