I know nothing about Richmond (save that Rob Belli transferred from there), but what kind of an institution is it academically? Where would it rank in terms of the Patriot League?

Academically, Richmond is probably very similar to the rest of the Patriot League other than Georgetown. One of my best friends from high school went there and he had similar grades to the kids I knew who went to Lehigh and Lafayette. I like the sound of Richmond in the league to replace Towson with a more similar academic peer, but I don't have know anything about their football program.

Just for fun does anyone have an idea of how (academically, we have a good idea of how they stack up on the field) the patriot football schools should rank? Georgetown Holy Cross Fordham Everyone else...
or is there a stronger hierarchy?
Even a little action in this vein would be a bonus on this board...

My academic ranking would be something like this:
Georgetown Holy Cross Colgate Lehigh Lafayette Richmond Bucknell Fordham
But I don't see a whole lot to distinguish 3-7, and I could be really underestimating Fordham and overrating Holy Cross. The only thing I am sure of is no. 1 (unless you are an engineer).

as far as admission standards, Georgetown is a clear #1 (of course) followed by Colgate by itself at #2. colgate is definitely better than holy cross. i am a junior in hs and am applying to both gtown and colgate next year, though i hope to get into the former in early action

Well, according to the front page, Richmond won't be coming at all.

im surprised how no one has given colgate any attention for their academics. they are consistently rated in the top 50 schools in the nation and are definitely in the top 3 of the PL, and probably ahead of Holy Cross

I have to agree with David, Colgate is as good a school as Holy Cross. GU, HC, and Colgate are more or less on par academically I would guess, even if GU is a different animal as a 12,000 student research university with large grad schools including an elite law school. GU might be more selective (ie popular nationally among good students) than the other two, but I would put them all on par with one another.
Maybe if GU had the resources financially that most expect of a school as nationally prominent as it is, it would be signficantly better than the other two colleges in the way it could attract top talent and provide superior libraries, labs, classrooms, etc. That is really what sets a Harvard apart more than anything from say a BC, the money is no object approach to resources. But GU is quite poor for a top 25 university.
