Well, I congratulate your son on his fine choice, which will benefit both his athletic aspirations and his future career.
That said, I hope your son does come read these boards, and that if/when he does, he can place the "negativity" he reads here in the proper perspective. While internet message boards can be a decent source of information, what you read there has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Moreover, I don't see markedly more negativity here than on other boards. If you read a board that's entirely positive, you're looking at one of two things: a) the board for a school that has won every game for the last three years, or b) the largest collection of Pollyannas ever assembled. I wouldn't suggest looking for the school with the happiest message board posters and making a decision from there.
And to correct a misunderstanding: there's no doubt the MSF is going to get built. Construction is slated to start this year. Georgetown has nothing to hide in this regard.
I hope your son does come to Georgetown, both for his football future and his future as a student/professional. But, judging from the tone of your post, I suspect that perhaps you were not that enthralled with the decision from the beginning, even if your son was - after all, why would the ramblings of a few malcontents make you question what you've seen with your own eyes? Ultimately, I wish only the best for your (or any father's son), be it here or at another institution.

Well, at least from what Ive heard they are finally going to be starting the first phase of the new stadium in March, but it took forever to get to this point.
I also wouldn't make a decision based on a few disgruntled fans on a message board. Some people aren't huge fans of the coach, but many people think he's a great guy and love having him around.
I understand that some negativity could be concerning, but after a poor season you're gonna have some of that on these boards. That doesn't mean that its going to continue though.
Also, don't discount the education here. I understand the importance of football to an athlete, but unless he's planning on playing in the NFL you've got to remember how valuable a world class education is and being able to spend 4 years in one of the greatest cities in the world on a beautiful campus with some of the most amazing people you'll ever meet.
I wouldn't trade Georgetown for anyplace else. Being able to go to school here is truly a privilege.

NewHoya,
My son was a frosh on the Hoya team last season, and neither he, my wife nor I have second guessed the decision to send him to GU. Like your son, he had many options open to him, and like your son, he takes his football seriously (all his teammates do, from what I can see). He loves the school, coaches, and is getting a great education in a great city on a beautiful campus. The team struggled last season for many reasons, but he and his teammates believe they are part of an up and coming program, and will have the tools, both on and off the field, to win in the years ahead. Good Luck with your decision, and if your boys a stud, hopefully we'll see him in a Hoya uni next year. If that's the case make sure you meet the small gang from Mass, we're the ones with the funny accents!

Let me add another bit of commentary from the Dad of a freshman from this past season. Just as with MassDad, my son was recruited by some of the finest schools in the east. Since he (and we) are residents of the DC area, Georgetown was at a disadvantage when compared to the lure of some exciting northeastern cities for his collegiate experience. Then he met the coaches, saw the campus and considered the Georgetown area. It became a "no-brainer" and he is as certain as a 19 year old can be that he made the right choice.
Any disgruntled malcontent with an axe to grind can get on one of these boards and spew their poison. It's easy to see how that can be discouraging. Without knowing anything about the writer of this stuff, it's nothing more than the unsupported opinion of an unknown source. Perhaps that is what I am now...but I would hope you would consider the point of view and the way in which it is expressed.
Sure, it looks like the facilities will be built and we are anxiously looking forward to it. But that cannot be the reason your son chose Georgetown. The people are first class and I am thrilled that Coach Benson will be mentoring my son for four years. The school is phenomenal and there's no place on the east coast that can rival the hilltop as a location for a university.
For me it's all about people. Almost exactly one year ago, we stood under the lights in the largest stadium in the Ivy League. My son then considered what mattered to him most and called Coach Benson--he hasn't regretted it for one second. We all wish your son the very best and, if he affirms his choice of Georgetown, he will be rewarded in ways that will last a lifetime.

I was gonna jump in, but I knew LBPop would eventually weigh in, and do it better than I could. It really is all about people.
I am a former player, and I too was recruited by the Patriots and Ivies, but I can tell you after my trip to Georgetown, I cancelled my trip to Penn. I haven't regretted it for a second.
On a related note, everyone should take note of what they say on this board. It does have an effect, and we have now seen it. I'm not asking to shy from the truth, but baseless, shameless pessimism doesn't need to be broadcast.

I take it as the sign of a mature college program that less than positive comments are tolerated on this site. These are not children, they are young men. It is not a right to play college football but a I take it as the sign of a mature college program that less than positive comments are tolerated on this site. These are not children, they are young men. It is not a right to play college football, it is a privelege. The people who frequent this board obviously care about the program a great deal, so there is no reason to run away because criticism is tolerated here.

After my somewhat impassioned post from yesterday, I was uncomfortable with one comment. I referred to people who "spew poison" and I'm afraid that my anger at reading that posts on this board may influence a young man to change his mind about Georgetown caused me to overstate my position.
Of course, I believe criticism is appropriate for this forum. I am admittedly an optimist and a new, but huge fan of the school and the football program. My concern is when that crticism crosses over to personal attacks or when it is obviously the result of some personal agenda. I apologize if I seemed to indict everyone who has expressed valid concerns on this board.
