Taken from the HOYA....."Benson said that the Patriot League was tough this year, with two teams making the national playoffs. In addition, two teams from the Ivy League will join the Patriot League next year."
WHats the deal?!

Must be a reference to adding two Ivy League teams to GU's schedule next year (Cornell and Yale, right?). No way anyone leaves the Ivy to join the PL, must be a misquote/misinterpretation.

Ok, I just read the whole article and I am pretty sure the reporter does not know what he is talking about. He is listed as "Special to the Hoya" in his byline, which usually is for people who have not written more than 3 stories on their own, so he may learn. He also refers to Georgetown dominating Division III competition throughout the 90's, and we all know the MAAC was I-AA, albeit not as strong as the PL. www.thehoya.com/sports/120704/sports3.cfm

I sent this email to the Hoya editor, let's see if I get a response. Does anyone think I was out of line?
*** A recent article printed in the Hoya had two pieces of information which I do not think are accurate.
First, is the statement that 2 teams from the Ivy League are joining the Patriot League next season. Impossible. There are 2 Ivy League teams on the schedule next year, that does not mean they are joining the conference.
Additionally, the article cites that the Hoya Football team dominated D-III play for most of the 90's. Our team entered Division I-AA in 1993, thereby playing most of the 90's at that level.
For the years in the 1990's spent in I-AA our team went 42-19, .689 winning %. From 95-99 we went 33-10, .767% and won two Patriot League contests versus Holy Cross and nearly beat Fordham in 98.
As an alum and former player I am somewhat saddened to see that the people reporting on our team are not paying attention to detail when doing so. It is already difficult to deal with the apathy of the student body in general with regards to supporting the football team, but it really sends a message when those who are charged with keeping the general public informed about the team do so irresponsibly. We are a program of hard-working student athletes who have had success in the past, and undoubtedly will have success in the near future. I feel that our past should be properly reported upon, much like our present is and our future should be.
Thank you

I think you probably do know the level of football expertise at "The Hoya", but you are clearly too kind to say it. I enjoy reading what they have to say, but I certainly don't rely on them for important information or major announcements. I must say that I am getting a real charge out of seeing how much space is being devoted to an obvious mistake or typo. With this post, I am now just as "guilty" as everyone else. Boy, once the season ends we all seem to get a little desparate for football conversation. I can't wait for spring practice.
