According to the Blue and Gray, GU's board of directors approved $1.4M to begin design work for Phase I of the Multi-Sport facility. The hope is to begin construction of phase 1 (infrastructure work and the new field) this winter, and have it ready by next fall, pending fundraising. www1.georgetown.edu/explore/news/?DocumentID=1229

I don't know whether to be excited or not. How close are we to the necessary dollars?

At least they finally approved something. I still have faint hopes that it will be finished by my senior year, but the way things go around here that is probably a reach.

I think it's raised in pledges, but how much of those pledges are cash right now is likely the issue.

Here's the description from the athletics web site. www.guhoyas.com/extras/local/multisporthidden/MSFOverview.htmlI think the turf is one of those hybrid turfs that many places are getting these days, some combination of rubberized "soil" and individual blades of artificial grass (Sprint-Turf?). Synthetic, but not the classic astroturf carpet.

the SpinTurf or FieldTurf, depending on what brand they get, is really high quality stuff. Nebraska installed it 2 years ago, and a lot of high schools in Texas, where I live, are doing it too.

Yep, the stuff is amazing. Bucknell has it and so does Duquesne. The report from some players after Duquesne was that it was a great surface on which to play. They could wear normal cleats and due to the under surface of crushed tires, landing on it was very similar to natural grass. Also, there was only a minimal amount of turf "burn".
It should mean that the team can practice right on the playing field and not have to use the carpet field nearly as much.

i was there for a summer school college course program through the junior state of america. i stayed on the 5th floor, but i dont remember the exact number. it was, if u are walking out of the elevators, through the common room and down the hall on the right, directly across the hall from the bathroom and showers. how would you rate kennedy hall to other georgetown dorms?

Wow, thats some coincedence. You were about 2 or 3 rooms over from my room. Im in the corner room that overlooks both the field and the tennis courts/McDonough.
Compared to Village C East where I lived last year as a freshman this is about 100 times better. I can't even explain how great this dorm is compared to last year. The Quad is definitely some of the best housing you can get in my opinion. Of course apartments are also good but I absolutely love Kennedy. Also, my room is one of the biggest rooms in the Quad and it has the 4 windows with the sweet views, which is great.
