What's the deal with him not getting an opportunity yesterday? I would think when Allan takes over the starting role it would be better to have a Freshman as a backup to further his growth on an accelerated pace rather than start a less-than-serviceable senior. Or is it better to have a senior backup?
The defense looked strong yesterday. I think it might be top 3 in the PL this year.

I wasn't surprised by choosing Crawford, if for no other reason than he has experience. The stat book against what is arguably the worst I-AA team out there suggests that Crawford is not going to be effective in the option against quicker defenses and for that reason I could see Cangelosi getting time later in the season.
I think another concern is a mixing up the option. If Lafayette keys on Sarin and floods the box, there has to be other options.

The other option is Keith Allan returning to take the qb spot. If the box gets flooded, he has 4.5 speed for option running or passing. lets hope his ankle is fully healed for the next game.

I'm not surprised Crawford started but was very surprised Cangelosi didn't get any time. Allan is clearly the starter in this offense and I don't think stats told us anything we didn't already know about Crawford. He's a serviceable back-up but definitely a back-up. I'd be happy if he just eliminates mistakes and is steady if he has to start again. If he starts 0-6 and kills a few drives, we would have to go to Cangelosi at that point just to keep defenses from overplaying the run.

My sense is that Coach Benson is very defferential to upper classmen...at least initially. Crawford brings senior stability and for an opening game against a marginal foe, that's what was called for. Allan and Cangelosi are probably the better athletes and I would bet by mid-season they will get the majority of the snaps.
