As I watched the second half last night, and started to let my nerves get the better of me, I was impressed by the absolute control that JTIII had on the situation. With 5 or 6 minutes left, we had a number of our subs in the game, freshmen and sophomores, and for a moment I wondered (muttering under my breath) what we were doing, risking mistakes in front of a fired-up enemy crowd. Then the light bulb went off, and I knew that III knew exactly what he was doing - getting the younger guys some priceless experience under that kind of atmosphere and pressure. He knows that one game in early December will not make or break a season, but the ability to develop depth that can perform under pressure in February and March could. This team will get better and better over the next weeks and monthes, and will absolutely be a monster in the post-season.

Great minds think alike. The revelation just came to you earlier. I thought the same thoughts watching the game, but later wathing it on tape I thought dfferent. JT3 played 9 players with 8 getting double digit minutes . This team will not look as fluid now as it will later in the year. With 3:52 left and Hoyas trailing by 1, 57-56, and the "neutral crowd" going wild ,JT3 calmly called a timeout and reinserted his starting lineup. This linup finished the game on a 14-3 run. Allowing only a garbage 2 with 2 seconds remaining. It was like JT3 said ,"o.k. its time to play Hoya ball and stop experimenting" The final 3:52 is a capsule of what the Hoya starters can do as a unit throughout the game. By March it will be a capsule of what a varied combination of the 9 man rotation will be capable of. Scary. That being said Summers and Ewing are starters that need a little more fine tuning in their games. Ewing needs to take the midrange jumper as confidently as he shoots the 3 and stop forcing ball to the basket when it is not there. Summers has to improve his handle, so that he can confidently dribble at a 2nd defender, then deliver a backdoor pass to cutting teammate like Jeff Green did countless times.

What is not "cool and calculated" is the missed free throws. More work on that is needed.
