Might as well start this thread now. Macklin I get, but everyone else? Come on.

We haven't been hitting them all year, I chalked it up to just early season rustiness but it is getting worse not better. We're hovering around 50% for the year after today. That's just atrocious.

And worse, most of these weren't even close. Kind of tight shot put shots that barely caught iron. 5 games in and we don't have one reliable guy at the stripe right now.

Is it a conditioning thing? Many FTs were short in the 2nd half.

I doubt it -- they seemed mostly long in the first half, so maybe it was just overcompensation.

Good news is FTs are easy to improve at, especially when you're hitting at a 53% clip.

I thought this thread was going to be about our awesome free throw defense -- 5th best in the country. Opponents are only shooting 54% against us, going into today's game. www.kenpom.com/tmleaders.php?c=OppFTPct

We are shooting at ~Shaq's FT percentage. Just checked his stats: .525 career. Maybe playing "hack a Shaq" would be a valid strategy for our opponents against our entire team. Ugh. We seem to specialize on missing the front end on the 1 and 1 as well.

Good news is FTs are easy to improve at, especially when you're hitting at a 53% clip. Seeing as how our percentage can't really go down I agree that it will probably go up. How, though, do you easily improve FT%? I imagine they're already taking tons of shots in practice; what else can you really do?

Horrible freethrow shooting today 40.9% 9-22. I'm actually surprised it was that high i thought it had to be around 30%. Sheesh. We need to pick it up pronto.

Someone pointed it out on HoyaChat - - our crowd free throw defense is weak. They are starting the wave too late. It needs to be about a second earlier. Come on students!

The wave is pointless if you do it after the ball has left the shooter's hands

maybe it is our rims at the phone booth that make booth us and opponents suck as FT. Of they few of the ones we made today were even swishes, most banged on the rims went 3 feet in the air and miraculously landed.
for a team that has such a good 3point and fg%, we should be doing better on the charity stripe... giving away too many points... especially on the front end of a one and one. -m

I know the comments were more in jest, but we've been fortunate to play bad FT shooting teams.

The problem I see with free throws is that we're thinking too much and not getting legs under the shots. Almost to a man, we're shooting with our arms instead of bending the knees and what not. Some guys also seem to be taking too long at the line. Just take a couple of dribbles and shoot.

I'm sorry, I blame myself for our free throw woes, I must be contagious (look at my sig for why)
