This is a major blow to their hopes at winning the Big East, although I believe those hopes ended when Hibbert announced he was coming back for senior year. It's a shame because I was looking forward to re-match between Padgett and Hibbert (We all remember how Hibbert schooled him last year). Best of luck to Dave on his recovery. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3119221

He could be back by mid-January. Have to say I hope so--I was looking forward to the L'Ville game to close out the season and decide the Big East
"Pitino said that Padgett could return in 10 weeks if the knee heals quickly. If he doesn't return, Padgett, a fifth-year senior, would have to appeal for a sixth year of eligibility."

As Will Carroll would say, "Health is a skill." Unfotunately, it's one Padgett doesn't have. He's been hurt so much I don't expect them back. They have good depth so the Ville will be fine, but they really did get quite a bit shorter.

Ouch. He broke his knee? And, uh, ten weeks would put him in February, without rehab.

The Hoyas have good depth, but I would still be worried if any of our players was out for the season. And if any of our starters went out, I wouldn't say 'we'll be fine.'

That sucks for him and for L'ville. I know they have the depth but I don't know if you can expect Caracter to be consistent enough to take Padgett's place. What are the NCAA rules regarding a medical redshirt. If he didn't get one after two games for this that would be ludicrous.

This kid has had so many injuries he might be forced to give up competative athletics if he wants to walk when he's 40. Injury is the worst way to end a career and I wish Padgett nothing but good luck from here on out

Fine is probably an overstatement, but relatively speaking to other schools, Louisville's depth wil help them. This probably means more time down low for Caracter, if he can stay out of trouble, and Earl Clark, who has height but lacks the girth.

Thinking ahead here. If he sits out the year and is granted a sixth year, they could be scary good next year. There are only a few schools with incoming classes as good as ours, but 'ville might be one of them.
That said, if Padget stays for another year, I wonder if they'll have room for Tyreke Evans, for whom I think they're saving their last 'ship.

They wouldn't have enough scholarships for Evans, but I'm sure they would be able to find room. I hope Padgett gets recovers from this injury and gets healthy.

If your first redshirt was for an injury you can get the 6th year with an injury by applying for a medical hardship waiver.

best of luck to padgett on a speedy recovery and a reminder how difficult it is for an entire squad to remain healthy throughout a full 30+ game season...luckily we have JC on our side.

That is a shame. I hope the kid has a complete recovery, however long that takes. And yes, I share the hope that the NCAA will give him another year if he wants it.

It just goes to show that there is an element of luck to having a championship caliber team - not that L'ville doesn't still have that, but I was really looking forward to seeing Hibbert in match ups with both Padgett and Dorsey and now I'm disappointed I won't get to see one of those match ups.
I wish Padgett the best on his recovery - I know there's a tendency to rush these things and hope he does what's best for him long term, as someone said already he could have serious mobility issues later in life if he pushes himself too hard now.

Its a major blow. Its not the end of the world because they are still incredibly talented and in the back of their minds must have always been preparing for another Padgett injury. But, yes, this hurts.

Hard luck. If I was him, I would concentrate on getting to the NBA camps. Why risk another major NBA-career-threatening injury?
