I just read Harlan's piece in the Hoya Basketball preview.. the one on Jon and Coach. Harlan.. that was an EXCELLENT article. Very well conceived and researched, and really well written too. I am not in the habit of citing individual writers -- (other than an occasional thanks to Barker for some info.) AND -- yes, I know there is already a thread on the Hoya Preview.... so the clutter police are likely show up any minute! But before they do... hey man, you did a GREAT job! (Are you an English major?) Thank you for giving us an even deeper insight into Jon, and also into Coach. It enhances and reinforces our appreciation of and connection to our team and our guys. I will be looking for more columns and articles from you this season. And the other Hoya writers, I haven't read the entire preview section yet, but the whole thing is looking really well done. So congrats to you too. If anyone hasn't read Harlan's piece yet, you can find it here: www.thehoya.com/features/110807/features1.cfm

More than just a little craft in that poignant piece. Thanks to Harlan for writing it and to SirSaxa for filtering it from the mass. Admins take note and consider a front page link.
With a name like Harlan Goode (what a great name for a budding writer), I suspect there are southern roots that infuse the poetry and touch even cold New England hearts.

I got some serious chills. Wow. Great piece and makes me even more excited for the season to start.
You just feel like Coach thinks this team could be special. He won't ever admit it, but he doesn't deny it.
Having senior leaders like we have is so critical to the program. When guys liek Wright and Freeman see how serious Jon takes basketball and the books it can't help but rub off in the right way.
It all starts with a foundation and we have it.

I received my paper copy of the preview today, and I have to say that the Hoya's efforts look even better on paper. The edition is clean, and the photos are well chosen all around. I think some may have chosen a different photo for the poster, but I love it.
I imagine photos add to printing costs, but it would be cool in future editions to have a photo retrospective on the past season. Maybe you could do it in lieu of the top games piece and just pick a handful of photos to blow up and feature as "Top 5 Moments". My picks for 2006-2007 would be a shot of Wallace's 3 against UNC, something from the ND BET game, Jeff pounding his chest in the Wachovia Center (turning point of the season IMO), some shot of net cutting in MSG or the Meadowlands, and PE2's reverse dunk in Dudley's mug.
I encourage everyone to get a copy of this thing. You'd never guess it was a campus newspaper if you saw it.
