Pretty much what we've read before but some interesting insight from Pat Ewing Jr. tinyurl.com/2rflow

Nice article. Some of the most appealing attributes of this team is their overall work ethic, attitude, and class that these guys bring to the table! Couple that with a fantastic coach and it breeds success-short and long term.

"You'll see a lot more defensive play, blocking the shots, getting more rebounds, just making up for what Jeff Green brought us," Hibbert said. "I've been working hard in the weight room, trying to slim down a little more. I'm always in the weight room."
I hope it translates to less fouls.

Roy has never been in foul trouble...his defense was spectacular last season diving for looseballs, altering shots, blocking shots, etc...

As far as I remember, Roy wasn't in real foul trouble until the postseason when the press started making it a big deal.

Roy wasn't in foul trouble too often because he was never expected to play the extensive minutes Jeff and JWall would. If he had played 30-35 minutes it might have been an issue, but that's true of almost any NCAA center..

Roy does get in foul trouble and what's worse about it is that at least 50% of the time it involved reaching on a perimeter switch. Roy, you are 7'2" and that opposing guard is 6'1". Back off a bit and don't swipe!

Back off a bit and don't swipe! Easier said than done. What other man his size at any level of basketball is guarding 6'1 players on the perimeter? There's a reason why its hardly ever done; even smaller and athletic centers don't typically switch out and defend small guards near the three point line. Roy is bigger than most and not as quick as most big men. Sure he should not reach but you have to cut him some slack on picking up these cheap ones.

Yes, Thompson asks a lot of Roy.
I guess what gets frustrating is that is rarely gets a foul when the player drives on him -- he does a great job of letting the smaller player go by and then swatting him from behind. But it's that immediate swipe on the switch -- or the leaping out to four feet past the three point line where he seems to get a good amoutn of fouls.
I realize that that may be how Thompson teaches the whole team. The swipe or extra movement (if you get there first) disrupts the player with the ball, and gets them going backward allowing the defense to reset. It's just tough to see Roy pick up two of those a game. There will be more games this year where we'll need him for more than 25 minutes, despite a stronger bench.
