I think intensity like Jon has is fairly rare. He has great athleticism compared to the average person, but for a college athlete, he's nothing special athletically. I think there's a lot of kids with his athleticism and smarts, but it's the short term instensity (ability to focus) and long term intensity (work ethic) that I think is special about him.

Basically everything i have read from Rivals to scout to the Duke and UCLA boards say that we are a definite favorite with Stanford still in the picture. It's recruiting so anything can happen but we're looking pretty good.

Here's something to take note of when comparing the Wallace's and Monroe's of the recruiting world:
1. Both kids FIT PERFECTLY no matter where they are ranked. They are both great students, play unselfish basketball and have been recruited by III--whom I trust when evaluating what type of kid is a good fit to play at Georgetown.
2. FIT--is far more important then talent. Some guys are fine players--but aren't efficient--and don't like to share the ball--they are spread it out and get out of my way type of guys--and that works for some programs. Others are guys who are content on winning by any means--and don't mind moving the ball to a teammate who has a better shot--yet can still impact a game with rebounding, assists, blocks, steals, etc...that is what works for Hoyas.
--as a sidenote--it's been said that Hollis Thompson is another kid who is "playing up"--and is age of most rising HS Sophomores--but he's a JR--so like Henry Sims, Greg Monroe, and Roy Hibbert--he'd follow in the tradition of guys who are not only excellent players/students--but also YOUNG prospects for their class. Some think a year isn't a big deal-but physically it's a factor and it means you are getting great talents who are also going to grow as players--physically fill out and maybe even get taller in case of Hollis--who is said to be 6'8 and could be as tall as 6'10 by time he hits Georgetown.
If you look at some of the pictures of Greg Monroe playing and the look of Greg on his visit to Georgetown--he's filled out and is at least 20 lbs stronger through the chest/shoulders then he was in Spring. It's an advantage of commiting early--you can focus on your school work, working out/getting better, and having life of a normal HS teenager and know that your future as a player is waiting for you.

Age (v level of competition) is probably the single most important measurable when evaluating rising prospects in baseball. (For example, Bill James found that a 20 year old who is already a slight above average big league regular for their position has about a 30% of making the Hall of Fame -- pitchers excluded for injury reasons).
I would not be surprised to see that true in basketball as well, but the analysis simply hasn't been done or published. The learning curve is so ridiculously steep for most players that a year at the younger ages accounts for an incredible amount of improvement.

Hollis will be the #1 small forward in the 09 class, Deshante Riley will be the #1 true center in the 09 class, and Lance will be the #1 shooting guard in the 09 class. That is a sick class. I only see 2 schollies available right now, but I'm sure the staff will figure it out. Hollis can also play the SG position, which will allow a player like Armwood to play SF.

We're all but guaranteed of having 3 scholarships in '09. Not having three (if we take no more '08s) means Greg Monroe stays to be a sophomore and DaJuan stays to his senior year. No transfers, no one else jumps (like Austin or Chris). Someone will leave early in some way. 2. It'll be interesting to see which way we play Hollis if he commits. If we play him at the 2, we're very big. But the system also encourages playing "down" a position, I think. You want wing skills on your post players, point skills on your wings, etc. I could see Hollis at the 3 because his skill level would be off the charts for a 3 (and Armwood at the 4, if we got someone like him would be appropriate there). It wouldn't hurt someone like Armwood's pro development, because our 4 plays offense like a 3, our 3 like a 2, etc.

good points. Plus Hollis still has a lot of work to do on his game. But he is a hard worker, so he will really improve. He does not have the perimeter skills like Jordan Hamilton yet, or the athleticism like Armwood or Karron Johnson yet.

Although I am not much of a fan of switching on screens generally, it is what we do, and I think you can see great improvements when we started to match Jeff up with opposing guards last season, like Scottie Reynolds. The more I read, the more I think Thompson is going to be a SF due to his size, and you'll see Wright/Freeman as the backcourt tandem of the future, with some Rivers and Clark in there too. On edit: I wouldn't be surprised if our haul was even bigger than Thompson over the next couple of weeks, but that is just a guess.

Ambassador, what do you mean by: "On edit: I wouldn't be surprised if our haul was even bigger than Thompson over the next couple of weeks"?

That I wouldn't be surprised if others wanted to fill up our scholarship chart. I don't know who that might be, but remember what happened last year? There is an incentive for folks to commit early since we are crunched for ships. You snooze, you lose.

scout quotes his mom saying Hollis will probably decide before Thanksgiving and is taking this weekend to think it over -- she said he is down to three schools. sources close to the recruitment say Georgetown is the probable leader.
