I just heard an interview with him on the premium site and he really sounds like a great kid. Comes off as respectful (calling the interviewer "sir" and sounds very intelligent). I seem to remember hearing things about his ability to qualify and possibly a bad attitude, but from the interview it sounded like he is exactly the kind of kid we want at our program. He said since coming to Hargrave he was working on time management skills in preparation for college, voluntary getting up at 6am to run, and had lost about 7 pounds.
Of all the recruits he seems to have been forgotten a little - anyone have any info on his game and if he'll be able to contribute right away. We could really use a "banger" next year.

I don't think the concerns were attitude. He's a great kid. We were just unsure of his academics and whether he'll be here next year. If he is he's going to be a great asset in the deepest back court in the country.

back court front court w/e it depends if you're thinking offense or defense. I always think back court should be the post players

I've only seen Chris play twice (both on TV), but here's my thoughts.
He is definitely a wide load -- much more substantial than Sims, Macklin or Monroe (currently, because Monroe has wide shoulders). He's a good rebounder with a real nose for the ball. Decent handling skills and quickness for a big guy. Not a real great leaper, but hardly a poor athlete. Seems to have soft hands.
Only thing he couldn't do in the games I saw was finish. He seemed to have a decently soft touch -- the balls weren't clanging everywhere -- but he wasn't finishing well, either, missing a lot of bunnies.
Of course, that's just two games.

People are basically in a wait and see mode with Braswell. He has talent, but it is not known whether or not he will qualify for college this year or be in the 09 class. He made a good decision to transfer to Hardgrave, because he can focus on improving in class and on the court.
As a player SF is correct. He has lot of skill(passing and rebounding his area), but his legs are just weak for some reason. He just does not finish well/strong around the basket, but he is not affraid of contact.

Braswell apparantly played well for Hargrave in a recent scrimmage with Oak Hill -- had 21 pts and double digit rebounds. According to Scout - "he set the tone around the bucket. Braswell’s a guy who knows the angles, plays his role inside and old school’s his way to points."

Sounds a lot like he could develop into a similar player to Sweets.

We could really use that inside banger presence on the team and if Braswell can fill that role, I would be very happy. Our frontcourt has the potential to be one of the best of all time at the college level if everything comes together in the right way for Summers, Macklin, Monroe, Braswell, Sims and whomever else gets into the mix.......possibly the 7 footer from Senegal mentioned in another thread!! We'd have size, talent, depth and versatility unlike anything I can remember seeing. A lot has to go right as far as players developing/staying, etc, but what incredible potential there is for this team over the next few years. Oh yeah, our backcourt is pretty decent too

He kicked the butt of 7-footer Jeff Withey in AAU tourneys this past summer and yet Whitley keeps rising up the lists while Braswell either falls down the rankings or stays at about the same number.

Also, he apparently plans to set the record for biggest guard ever. Not a chance: Ralph Sampson - UVA and the Rockets were constantly bemoaning the fact that this 7'4" point guard wouldn't play near the basket...

Brad Daugherty told me that was Ralph's biggest downfall in the league. That he wanted to handle too much and not get in the post where a 7'4 guy belongs. Daugherty also bet me a cup of coffee UNC would win the national title this year. I drink decaf Brad!

Daugherty also bet me a cup of coffee UNC would win the national title this year. I drink decaf Brad! Hear's one for you ID, the reason so many UNC fans are cocky--the "path" to San Antonio for them will be easier then a UNC invitational--they'll likely play their 1st and 2nd Round games in Raleigh, then the East Regional is in Charlotte--so they wouldn't have to leave the state for the opening 4 games of the NCAA tournament--that is a huge factor. So basically it becomes a 2 game tournament for Heels--which is a joke and why I laugh at the NCAA preventing teams like Hoyas from playing at Verizon in opening round games--2 home games is an advantage--but not like having 4 or never leaving your state until the Final Four. I do believe that Hoops Gods reward the team with toughest path traveled--and the "easier" a situation is--the less likely you'll be tested come nut cutting time. That and Roy Williams teams are mentally/physically soft--so they'll wilt at first sign of someone throwing a haymaker back at them. I'm not big on "simulated projections" but I'd guess you'll see a UNC-TN region in Charlotte Bracket and I'll call that right now. Now both teams have to hold up their end--but I'm going to say it's Heels 1 in East, Vols 2 seed and Big East runner up is 3rd seed. Big East will beat each other up too much to get the highest seeds in tournament--but will have at least 1 team in Final Four--if not 2.

RDF, i think we should leave "nut cutting" to the experts, like Doug Gottlieb and Gary Williams.

Is Verizon as much of a home court for GU, as Charlotte is for UNC/Duke during the tourney? I think this team wouldn't care, but maybe its becoming the Cap Centre of this millenium. Boy do I miss the smell of weed in the rafters out at Landover. Ah, those were the days.

Since the Cap Centre has been torn down, there's no proof that weed ever existed in the nose bleed seats during any Hoya games of the 1980's and 90's. Specically the DePaul matchup vs. Dallas Comegys when they were 1 and 2 in the country. Not sure what year that was, but I digress.

In 2003 not only did Syracuse get the to stay in the east instead of a more deserving Pitt team, it also ended up playing Big 12 schools in its last four games and apparently no team from that conference had ever seen a zone defense before then.
