Check out CSTV Recruiting Section with Van Coleman. He's got recap that has: 1. Interview with Greg's HS and AAU Coaches 2. Highlights of Greg 3. Interview with Greg with Q&A Pretty cool stuff. Mr. Konchalski's analysis with Monroe video. You have to type Greg Monroe's name into the CSTV videos search, and it will be the second video: www.cstv.com/video/

ESPN has him ranked #7......who do they have in front of him?? Is it normal for their ranking system to be so different from Scout and Rivals? I wonder what the ranking from ESPN would be if he had just verballed with Duke?? Could I possibly ask anymore questions in this posting??

They use Bob Gibbons, who is one of the best. Gibbons looks at GM floatin in and out of games as being inconsistent. No one questions GM's talent; they question his intensity. Sound familiar?

ESPN Basketball Recruiting Insider Blog on the signing: insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3065019&name=basketball_recruitingMakes him sound like a Jeff Green clone (at least physically). Here's but a blurb: "Monroe has the ability to easily perform every task on the basketball court, much in the same manner in which Lamar Odom, another left-handed combo-forward, does for the Los Angeles Lakers. Monroe has smooth footwork and post moves, which allows him to easily score on the block, seeming just as comfortable facing up in the post or playing with his back to the basket. Despite his size, Monroe has the ability to consistently knock down perimeter jump shots with range that extends out to 15-17 feet. He has very good lateral quickness and surprisingly deft ball-handling skills for a player of his height. "Monroe places immense pressure on the opposition due to the match-up problems that he presents. When guarded by a bigger, slower post-player, Monroe uses his quickness to drive past the defender on the perimeter. If defended by a smaller perimeter player, Monroe can move into the post to exploit the size differential. He also runs the floor very well and has good leaping ability. Monroe also has very impressive vision and passing skills. He effectively rebounds the ball on both on the both ends of the court. Monroe also contests, alters and blocks shots on defense. If he plays with a high level on intensity on a consistent basis, increases his strength and adds muscle to his frame, Monroe will quickly evolve into an NBA-level prospect. " Just read this article. Had a huge smile on my face the entire time. The closing paragraph is fantastic: "The recent success that Georgetown has enjoyed on the court has provided John Thompson III with the ammunition required to bring quality recruits back to Washington, D.C. Monroe's pledge alerted the college basketball landscape of the return of Hoya Paranoia." PM me if you want the article.

Found this from a UCON blog from a few days ago: Link to UCON Blog"After in-house visits from eight different programs, Monroe, a 6-foot-10 power forward from Gretna, La., narrowed his list down to five schools for official visits: LSU, Georgetown, Texas, Duke and UConn. He'll visit LSU this weekend, Georgetown Oct. 13-14, Texas Oct. 20-21 and Duke Oct. 27-28. "Tyrone Mouzon, Monroe's coach at Helen Cox High, said Monroe may make his decision shortly after his visit to UConn, or possibly wait until spring to make his choice. One thing seems likely -- Monroe won't make a decision before his trip to Storrs." "'Knowing Greg, he'll probably make all his visits,' Mouzon said. 'But he may go some place and just be blown away, you never know.'"

Also, Rivals evaluates on pro potential, and even if someone like Tyreke Evans or Brandon Jennings dominates an AAU event more than Monroe, no one has potential like a 6'10"-6'11" guy who can play both inside and out. Height matters. I personally think Monroe might be a better fit for us than many listed above him on Gibbons' list anyway. We have our guards for '08 and beyond -- we needed another quality passing big man.

Link Tutorial
Tiny URL is easy but you don't need to use it. Here's an easy way to get the link to work no matter how many commas are in it or how long it is:
Type <url=XXX>YYY</url>
Where I've typed "<" and ">", use "[" and "]" Where I've typed "XXX" copy the entire URL from the address bar. Where I've typed "YYY" type a short description like "Duke Chronicle".
It usually works.

Still need a banger. A Michael Graham type, who strikes fear in opponents. Call me revisionist, but it's good to have one of those. One could argue that defending the "Prince-town" offense strikes fear into opponents as well.

Sound familiar? yeah, I would put Konchalski #1 and Gibbons #2. But those 6 guys are not better than Monroe. The 08 class is weaker than normal, but Monroe would be the only player in this class that would be a top 5 player in 06, 07, or 09. Monroe is not a scoring savant like Durant, but he has unlimited talent. He is young for his class (17), so he is still growing into his body. I honestly see Monroe at GU for 2 years, not the one and done like people think. He has a lot to work on and even after his sophomore season at GU he will just be 19, and still the youngest player in that NBA draft class. He is coming into college the same age as Jeff, so he could even stay 3 years if he is loving it(hopefully but not likely). He is a smart kid and with summer school at GU, he could graduate in 3...

I don't think a lot of opponents will back away from the lane because Chris Wright is patrolling the baseline.

Braswell? One for this year upcoming. I talked with Ron Briscoe over the summer at PJ and he thinks Monroe would definitely be top 5 , if not #1, regardless of class ('08,'09) Can't see him over Rose or Gordon from this year.
balla,
I met Larry Conley a couple years ago at SEC Media Day and he seemed to think that there was no way III could win with that offense in the BE and on a national stage. It was Jeff's sophomore year and Rudy Gay was gettin all that pub, despite the fact JG was co-rookie of the year in the conference. He said he had heard of "Jeff Green" and the Gay was a beast. Which he was for a minute.

I think a lot of skeptics could not visualize this offense working, because they had never seen it with elite players(future pros). The funny thing is that some of the best offenses in the NBA run/ran the system(Kings, Nets, Wizards).

What's the NBA rule on eligibility? Do you need at least one year of college and/or 19 years old?

Don't have time to read an 11 page thread, but I'm sure I'm reiterating many posts in saying WAY TO GO, congratulations to III and the staff, and welcome to Georgetown Greg Monroe, not to be confused with Syracuse Greg Monroe.
