collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1146&CID=716947#19 for a Syracuse team that lost three starters and its sixth man from an NIT team (though they did get screwed). Really? Other than shooting, rebounding, and defense the Orange don't have many question marks going into this season so I guess I can see where they're coming from.

They've got 2 McDonalds All American's coming in (one of which is a one and done candidate) along with Paul Harris...and despite how much anyone hates Devendorf...he can play ball. They arent that bad.

They arent that bad. Put it this way, if they're #19 that means the gap between the top 4 (including Georgetown) and #19 is MASSIVE. I'd put Wright, Sapp, Freeman, Summers, and Macklin against Flynn, Devendorf, Harris, Greene, and Onuaku and give us even odds. So I'm saying if they are #19, we're #19 plus our four seniors. Hey, let's hope they're #19.

I think the gap between teams 1-9 and teams 10-25 is huge this year. I mean it's still early, but it seems like there's a fairly wide gap.

I agree on both fronts - I can definitely see Syracuse being in the Top 25 mix all season, but there is a pretty significant talent gap between the top 5 or so teams and 6-25. I wouldn't be surprised by the way if Cuse finished 3rd in the conference.

Pre-season top 25 is not very realistic. But I'm with HoyaAtHeart on this -- I think they will be a very tough out towards the end of the season (I am assuming the frosh live up to the hype; if they don't, then fuggedaboutit).

Cuse will be a good team--they always are--the one interesting thing is Cheddar Bob's development as an outside shooter--because the first two seasons at Cuse--Devendorf is much better with ball slashing/driving then he is off the ball and with Johnny Flynn--Devendorf will play off the ball--because Flynn is a fine point guard. If he can't hit from outside consistently--then his effectiveness drops significantly.

The Cuse will be top 20-25 by the end of the season, but they lack depth.

Not having Rautins may be a blessing for them because it will force Boeheim to play the younger guys, who are supposed to be more talented on both sides of the ball. Cuse fans seemed to lament that Rautins was a Boeheim favorite because he played more than perhaps otherwise warranted.

After the trauma the media caused me in college due to ranking Gtown in the Top 25 and then watching us tank, I cannot have faith in pre-season rankings.
That said, every year there's a long way between #4 and #19. One is predicted to possibly win their conference and/or conference tourney and get to the Final Four, the other is predicted to win their mid-or-low-major conference or finish 3rd-5th in their high-major and make it to the 2d Round or maybe the Sweet 16. 'Cuse will be a decent team this season - they'll take a couple nice games and lose some bonehead ones while their guys develop. I can't wait to watch Roy eat them alive and Jon show 'dorf what a shooter really looks like.
