I know he had some terrible games in the FIBA Pan-Am, but Scottie Reynolds deserves to be on this list. I thought maybe I missed his name, but I read the thing 5 times and couldn't find him. Kind of pathetic of this blog if you ask me.

Reynolds will likely be playing the 2 this year. But that list is atrocious.

Reynolds may deserve a spot on here, but it might be best in a section on Chris Wright, mentioning how Reynolds wanted to come to GU, but...
The sad part of this list is that James' backup might be a better fit for the MU team than James and a better player if he was given run.

Scottie Reynolds will be placed at shooting guard--and that is what he is--an undersized 2G--not a point guard. He had awful playmaking skills and can't set anything up--hell the kid can't dribble effectively--he's never going to play PG again--nor should he.

Wallace was on the initial Rivals list of Top 10 point guards in the nation, and deservedly so.
I wouldn't even consider trading him for James straight up. Call me crazy, but I like guards who can shoot and make good decisions.

Call me crazy, but I like guards who can shoot and make good decisions. I mean how bad do you have to shoot before it's not a "weakness" but a true flaw in your game? I'd trade 6-7-8 on that list for 1-2-3 any day. I can't remember Eugene Harvey even being on the floor against us. Maybe he had an off night. Then again, Seton Hall had a lot of off nights. The final flaw in all this? It's hard to tell who's the point in Princeton. There's one Hoya who had a better assist/to ratio (1.91 to 1.88) and shooting percentage (42% to 38%) than James. His name is Jessie Sapp.

I don't know what the writer of that blog was thinking. I'll take the returning starters from a Final 4 team before I take Eugene Harvey.

why are we supposed to care about what this guy thinks again? he's an anonymous blogger, no?
our backcourt is looking very formidable and i have a feeling that anyone writing off jesse will regret it.

st pete - great avatar.
Z, I don't know if i agree, but i like where your head is at. i want jesse to come out hungry this year if people are questioning how long he can hang on to his starting job with such talented freshmen entering the mix...the kid was an nyc stud coming out of high school and i love his game, so nothing would please me more to see jesse just start tearing people new aholes left and right with his patented stutter dribble.

I think the nature of our offense - Very much TEAM oriented -- means we will rarely have the kids who stand out with incredible stats. (e.g: I think Jeff set the record for lowest average PPG of an Big East POY.)
Given the above, guys like Wallace and Sapp will always be underestimated in these kinds of pre-season "beauty contests". That's OK.... we still have them on our team and maybe this gives them a little extra incentive.
Let's just make sure they ALWAYS know how much WE appreciate them!

Yea, but Smith from Lousiville had worse stats than Sapp but got rated above him. You'd think leading a team to the final four and a BET Championship would dispel the bad backcourt myths, but apparently not.

I was never the biggest Sapp fan, but then two things swayed me for good:
1) Mouthing back to Dudley in the BC game. I'm glad that (while keeping his cool) someone got in his face for a few seconds there.
2) Shooting a strangely high percentage over his back, eyes closed, from 35 yards away in McDonough parking lot during the Final Four ticket night. I couldn't have even hit the backboard once facing the right direction from that distance. He hit rim almost every time.

Remember that Jessie was also the one that would practice halfcourt shots after every practice. JTIII commented on how much this annoyed him until he hit that shot at halftime that ultimately made a huge difference in the game. Jessie obviously has an affinity for the odd shot.

I don't really care much for one on one rankings -- it is a horrible way to match up basketball teams. But our backcourt with a senior sharpshooter and junior do-everything type supported by a bench of an elite defender, two instant offense types and another shooter/defender... well, I just can't see our backcourt getting outplayed much this year. Especially in BE play.

Jessie Sapp permanently won me over during the course of the North Carolina game. He was supposed to be overmatched and during one sequence stutter-stepped around Ellington and Hansborough for an easy lay up - oh and then he did it twice more in the second half. I don't really care about these rankings. They most likely prove one of the following propositions:
1) Individual rankings of players at a position is not indicative of overall team performance. 2) JTIII and his staff have gotten more production out of the talent they have at the guard positions than other coaches have done with more talented players (see Creen, Tom).

Um, what happenned to all of Villanova's guards? One of their 2 (or is it 3?) studs coming in ought to be on that list right? Corey Fischer is a wing, no?

Fisher is a point, but the rankings are of returning players. He does the freshmen right below. Reynolds is his #1 SG and Fisher his #1 Freshman PG.
