Scout posted a new article that had some new information.
1. He graduated high school in Ethiopia. 2. He’s enrolling at the Winchendon School and is a 2008 post-graduate student. 3. He is going to be their #1 ranked Post Graduate player and otherwise woud challenge Monroe for the #1 Sr. 4. As of now, he is planning to go to college. Since he is a post graduate he could possibly go straight to the NBA. 5. His top four schools are - UConn, Duke, FL, & Gtown.
I found it interesting that DePaul wasn't listed. Also I was told previously that he could try to enroll at the semester break this year.

Thanks MJG--appreciate the update. I think the kid is going to go to college--he needs work on his game and is very raw offensively. There is a poster on DePaul's Scout.Com free board that keeps saying Riek is very high on Georgetown--don't know how much to take from this-but interesting and worth noting to say the least.

That's quite a long stride from that height, he'd only have to take half as many steps as most guys running track!

FWIW, Riek graduated from High School in Eqypt, not Ethiopia. He is a native of Sudan.

Why wouldn't Big Man U. be on a 7-footer's radar? It's a no-brainer.

And the Rivals guy was right. But at the last minute the Most Powerful Man In Sports stepped in.

MCI, i wouldn't say he stepped in at the last minute. Tajuan Porter, Malik Hairston, Joevan Catron and now Matt Humphrey and Mike Dunigan. It's been going on for awhile. Wes has great influence over virtually all Family and Meanstreets players. Obviously Oregon has a major in with Wes considering assistant coach Kenny Payne has known Wes since he was a player back at Louisville. Ernie Kent saved his program by hiring Kenny Payne. You would think that if Louisville ever loses an assistant coach, they'll go hard after Payne.

I like our chances better if he stays an 08 recruit rather than coming in half way through 07. Not sure he'll want to be on the bench behind roy. I think he'd be happy following in roy's footsteps the following year. He would provide great depth though. imagine sitting one 7 fott 2 player and replacing him with another. if he's not a hoya frankly i'd much rather see him just go to the NBA. Cause frankly i hate those other three programs. I would've been fine with him at depaul, but i guess since he's blown up now, they're out of the running.

Oregon was rarely ever mentioned until Humphrey (probably with a push by MPIS) convinced Dunigan to seriously consider going the package-deal route. Then Dunigan flew out to Oregon where I'm sure MPIS was somewhere in the vicinity controlling the action. Then all of a sudden Oregon became the winner and the other schools that were once ahead (like four minutes previously) could not even get a visit before Dunigan's commitment. Now, its one thing for this to happen when starry-eyed lambs go to schools such as Duke and UNC where the tradition and lineage and ESPN hype are like no other. Plus having Hall of Fame coaches don't hurt either. But for this to happen with Oregon and Ernie Kent suggests MPIS made sure the recruits had a swell ol' time during their visit to the Pacific Northwest.
Just saying.
