Okay, I just googled Cornelio Giubunda. When did this guy ever play for G'town? I've never heard of him. What I saw said he played in 4 games for the Hoyas in 05 I think?

Giubunda is the lost (and highest rated by the recruiting services) member of the Roy-Jeff-Jon-Tyler class. He transferred to AU after barely playing his freshman year.

We can play them in Fort Meyer as long as Kermit Washington does not suit up and get every rebound. If Merlin Wilson has nightmares, Kermit is in them. Needless to say, he is Rudy T's nightmare.

Good game for the program - most likely early in the year and will bring an extra 4-5000 fans into the building - need every $$ we can get. Do they typically turn out 4-5k fans for their games, or do you figure that they will simply because it's a big game against a top 10 team. If it's the former and they already get 4-5k, then I would think a top 10 team in DC should get another 1-2k. Do many of their alums remain in DC or do they like almost all scatter elsewhere? For our fanbase, I would guess it would mostly attract the typical crowd for a fairly weak OOC opponent - around 6k maybe 7. So are we talking a 10-12 turnout assuming the Post and local radio doesn't do a big pre-game splash. Strong pre-game coverage might boost by 1-2k. So would the max be around 14-15k? If we go over 12k I would think this would become a yearly event.

American is not going to bring a large turnout to the game. The Eagles averaged 1,740 a game last season at Bender Arena, with a high of 4,775 versus Holy Cross and a low of 924 in the home finale versus Colgate.
The last five games in the series (all in Landover, with a seating capacity of 19,035) drew as follows:
1983: 9,902 1984: 6,305 1985: 5,112 1986: 5,179 1987: 4,960

Not any better than the MEACs and such, and the MEACS had no fans in the area. Why did they get so many for HC - was it a title game for their league or something? Do they have a stronger team now than in the 80s or about the same?

They include Howard, Morgan State, Coppin (both in Baltimore) and Maryland-Eastern Shore -- all of which are nearby and have numerous alumni in the DC metro area -- plus Hampton and Norfolk State in Virginia. Aggypryd can speak for A & T.... I know we've played Howard, Morgan and Maryland-Eastern Shore in the past, among other MEAC schools, but they've tended to be among the weaker teams in the league and don't usually garner a lot of support. Unfortunately, we have not generally scheduled the traditional conference powers, like Hampton or Coppin, though we have faced the Pirates in the NCAAs.

American used to be in the CAA and was a consistent bottom feeder. They're now in the Patriot, and consistently are in the league's upper half (the league does include Bucknell, who scared numerous majors in the NCAAs). The hired Jeff Jones, the former UVA coach, to make it to the NCAA tourney (which has yet to happen). AU hosted Holy Cross on January 20th with HC 4-0 in the league (AU was 1-3).
And if you've never been to Landover, it's not easy to get to. The Phone Booth is just a few Metro stops away. I could see AU alums, even those who aren't big bball fans, coming out to see the Eagles play a Final Four team from last year.

Wow. Lots of people knocking the Eagles. I don't know why. I'm sure Jerome Williams regrets his decision not to go there. Isn't that right, Chris Knoche? Yikes. Here I was, merely posting a more or less harmless (and really, not that funny) joke, and I had one of those "Thank God. There but for the grace of JTIII. . ." moments. You just never know when those are going to pop up. In this case, I think it was the moustache.

I would have loved for the Hoyas to schedule A&T and Howard back in the day, but playing A&T didn't make a lot of sense for the Hoyas program. There would have been a relatively large A&T following, but most Georgetown alums' and students' thoughts would have been, "We're playing who?" But I think scheduling Howard in football and basketball would have made perfect sense. Campuses in close proximity...and I still believe that a Labor Day battle between both schools could have been lucrative.

I have attended a few AU games in recent years. They don't turn out a lot of students, a few frats, but not much else. Their season ticket base is on campus, not too many alumni and community fans, but some of that is because you can always walk up and buy a good seat. They don't have any traditional rivals. Holy Cross has been their nemesis - AU lost to HC twice in the tournament finals, including when AU was #1 seed in 2002. HC beat AU 55-53 in the semifinals last year on a game-winning shot with 4.8 seconds left. AU has a few local players, Jordan Nichols - DeMatha; Travis Lay - Bullis, but Jones keeps bringing in Europeans, jucos, and transfers, so they don't build a local fan base off campus.
