Assistant Coach David Cox to Rutgers?

It could it won't definitely, but for 1) the general consensus at the time of goodman's commitment was that he was only coming to Georgetown for Cox. There's a pretty good chance he's gone now, but you're right there's a chance he may have never made it into a hoya uniform anyway. 2) Cox is being mentioned as the lead recruiter for most of our 2011 targets, i'm not sure if that's accurate, but I've definitely seen Christmas mention coach cox's name on twitter, so he is at least heavily involved in our recruiting. Having the main assitant you're in contact with leave a school can cause problems. It doesn't need to, but it could.

I hope we get someone good to replace him.

If he's been the point man on some of the big name recruits who've been listing us, that is going to be a problem. JT3 will have to scurry around to play some major catch-up. Hopefully, he's already started that as Cox's move can't have been a surprise.

Well the anti-TAUB folks will be happy. I can see why some would say that Cox's tenure at Georgetown was a disappointment, although I think a lot of that was out of his hands. Moving to RU--especially for an associate head coach spot--is a good move because he'll be able to actually exploit his best resource, the DCA pipeline, which he couldn't really exploit at GU due to the Pops/Curtis beef. Dalonte Hill has parlayed that exact same resource into being the highest paid assistant coach in the country. I don't blame Cox for trying to go somewhere else where he could try to do the same thing.

As I said Cox probably underachieved during his time at GU, mostly because Curtis wasn't going to be sending anybody our way. But he didn't really help us land anybody else, as we whiffed on just about all of our top targets in 2009 and 2010 except for Hollis, who we had laid the foundation for prior to Cox coming aboard (not sure if he played any role in that recruitment).

To sum it up... meh. Probably a good move for him and tough to say what it will do for us. Not going to help with Goodman or Cook for sure. The bigger question will be who we bring in and what kind of a recruiter they are and where they have ties. I'd be fine with us bringing in somebody who has strong ties in a different part of the country, but another local would be ok too. Just as long as it's somebody who really busts on the trail. I agree with those who suggest Broadus is probably untouchable at this point, but we basically need a guy LIKE him.

Please explain to this distant Hoya alum who Curtis is and what it means to our recruiting? I think that JT III needs to find someone with strong high school ties in the DC Metro area and hire a so-called recruiting specialist. I have watched that work over the years out West for several schools tht have to go up against the established national powers. Alford is doing it at New Mexico, Theus did it at NMSU, ditto for SDSU and UNLV programs.

The gist was I believe that the DC Assault AAU guys were offended when Jeff Green signed with David Faulk rather than one of their guys so they blackisted Georgetown.

Thanks for the help in understanding the situation. I have always wondered who Taub was and why it was significant. Let's hope that he really was useless. Now JT III needs to get out there and find that recruiter who possess basketball credentials as a player and has the type of personality that will win over high school kids and their families. I hope that there is no temptation to bring in his brother. I don't think that would be good for the program.

O.K. I'm going to take a contrarian perspective mainly because I'm just contrary.

I want a replacement for this Taub person who is not Syd or Ron, and who begins his conversations with his targets with the winning line, "So what are you reading?"

I bet JTIII used it at Princeton. Those of you who fantasize about Ivory League membership, take note.

Most of our recent recruits seem to me to be able to deal with that question easily. The great thing is that any affirmative answer is a good answer.

More of the same is what is wanted. As Ambassador said, it's an opportunity to improve.

It is a positive thing when assistant coaches move to another opportunity; it shows the quality of our staff and their development. The two articles both suggest he was hired to help with DC recruiting. Interesting, with all the talent in NJ & NY that Rutgers didn’t focus on that. WVU’s final four starters were all from NY and NJ. Until recently, a lot of Jamie Dixon’s talent was from the same area. Is the grass greener in DC?
