Speaking of Chris Grosse: His group is killing it this year. Agree - this is awesome.

Totally agree sleepy. There is absolutely no way to describe this team as embarrassing. And the crowd today on TV appeared like they were watching the team ironically. The team needs the crowd. You saw the energy level when everyone finally got into it. Hoping for better for Depaul. If you were there then go ahead and whine about the crowd if you feel a need. But if you were watching on TV you should be ashamed to complain about the fans who actually made the effort to attend. They did a hell of a lot better than you did. Agree. I wondered how long it would be before someone would take the obligatory shot at the crowd. Enough already. How long is it going to take people to realize that until we get a lot better, this is the new reality? Less than 5k for the crap pre-conference games, 7-10k for most BE games and over 10k for Syracuse, maybe the top BE teams and any other really big names that came to DC (obviously very rare). I do think we should scrap gray out until we can assure a better crowd. It was a bit embarrassing at tipoff yesterday with all of those shirts in plain view. But the crowd filled in decently, the student section was decent (for this year) and the crowd performed admirably. Just as it has for all of the other home games this year. Complain all you want about the size of the crowd and the fact that we cant get more people in the damn building, but stop with the complaints about the effort, intensity, energy and caring of the crowd (especially from your apartment in NYC or wherever you are complaining from). You have absolutely no clue. About a dozen season ticket holders around me yesterday - we were literally hugging after the game. Nearly every one of these games has ended in disappointment the past several years, it just felt so good for everyone to leave happy, almost not mattering how crappy our opponent was. There is a core of season ticket holders (maybe 4 or 5K?) that has supported this team and program more than any others these past few years. Showing up at just about every damn game - either against a garbage opponent in November or to watch an in-conference loss (often in horrifically painful fashion). But we keep coming back. JohnnyJones himself has missed a total of 8 home games in the last 6.5 seasons, which, particularly considering his family, work and other obligations, he views as doing his part. He is looking for praise and thanks from HoyaTalk, not complaints and admonishment.

This is by far our best lineup Today. These guys are too inconsistent to be an establsihed 5. I probably have as little technical knowledge about the game as anyone on this board and for 4 weeks I have been saying more minutes for mosely and blair / less minutes for mulmore and Johnson. I have dozens of texts to other members on this Board to prove it. It seems like a no brainer. Obviously tons of deficiencies either way, but fewer with mosely and blair, not to mention younger and more upside. It is a no brainer.

You gotta be willing to endure some bad decisions by Blair but I love the kid. Plays with confidence, has a great motor, can quickly energize a listless team. 100% spot on

I like this group of Govan, Derrickson, Pickett, Blair and Mosely. This is by far our best lineup

Horrible job by Ewing leaving Mulmore and Johnson in that long. 630 way too long. Mosely and Blair should be in the game. And now Kaleb is coming back in?

At least those teams had Joey Brown who was a true PG. Man, I probably shouldn't have said that two letter word I will never forget Joey Brown's steal and subsequent buzzer beater versus UConn. That UConn finish was so great. The ball bounced off the UConn guys head (was it Brian Fair?) Joey also hit a buzzer beater in the Big-East/ACC Challenge game against UVA in Greensboro to send the game to OT (which of course we lost, by double digits I think).

I’m not sure they even play the same position as Walker. Pickett plays the same position as Blair and Johnson plays some minutes at the same position as Walker. Even if you want to obsess over whether someone is a 3 or a 4 or a 5, last I checked Govan and Derrickson are not playing 40 minutes a game. All I am saying is I like what I have seen in very limited minutes from Walker and would love to see him get some more of those available minutes.

Same question, under different circumstances, that I posed to glidehoyas in a separate thread. Whose minutes should be reduced to accommodate more minutes for Blair and/or Walker? Pickett and Johnson

I’d let Blair play 25-30 minutes a game. He has a chance to be a big time scorer and does it really matter how many games we win this year anyway? Can we get Walker a lot more minutes too please.

This team has limited talent- not Pat's fault. He is out there busting his butt on the recruiting trail- something that hasn't occurred in a long time. Recruiting is everything, so he has exceeded my expectations. Just curious - do you have factual evidence to back up the claim that the current staff is working harder than the prior one in terms of recruiting?

So sad to hear this. Have two great memories with Greg. On HoyaTalk one day and he posts that St. Johns had released floor seats on ticketmaster. I grab a pair and go with my buddy. They were actually first row on the floor (spike lee seats). I met Greg and sat next to him and thanked him for the tip. He was on TV with his bulldog mask the entire game. DJ Owens made a diving play and steamrolled Jahidi into the next row. Those who know him, know that he protected his beer and didnt lose any! Big Hoyas Win! Years later randomly sat next to him in Gampel pavilion at the OT game where Otto went coast to coast to win it. Being CT. residents it was SO SWEET leaving a quiet building and he and I yelled "Hoya Saxa" around the entire concourse. Will miss his energy and love of Hoya Basketball. Rest in Peace I remember Greg getting in Thabeet's head from the first row the year Greg Monroe wrecked him. Man did he hate UConn. He passed the dog mask onto his pups and I'm sure a lot more important traits as well. We'll miss you Greg. So sad. I loved that guy. That game in Hartford Monroe’s freshman year was so great. Late December. UConn was #2 at the time I believe. I think I bumped into Greg that night after the game. Good times. RIP.

Walker's energy and effort is ever present and he's gonna force Coach to play him, should have been more involved already this season. Imo Where would he play? Derrickson and Jesse are taking up his minutes. Would you put him at small forward and take Pickett's minutes? Yes. Exactly.

There has to be an explanation for (1) why Mulmore and Pickett get so many minutes and (2) why Walker gets so few minutes. I would love to know the answer. Walker could be our best rebounder.

This is what happens when a well coached team plays a badly coached team. Don't try to convince me Creighton has a talent advantage over us. It's not like their guards are beating us off the dribble like most other teams do. This is just screens and moving the ball around. I don’t think there was anything good about that half. And I don’t feel like the defense has improved much since November. That said, it’s ridiculous to say Creighton isn’t more talented. Their players are a lot better than ours. Walkers effort and free throw shooting were positives.

Walker should start for Pickett in the second half. Walker should be getting more minutes period. A lot more. He should be taking tons of Pickett’s minutes and Kalebs minutes.

I like what I am seeing--the way we are progressing/building confidence. I am glad that Coach Ewing does not come on this board. Doing things the right way, as far as I am concern. Unfortunately, based on this schedule there is really no way to know how the team is progressing. We'll have a much better idea 2 weeks from today at this time.

The bizarre thing is that now our guards are being given wide open looks. It used to be our bigs who were left alone. Somehow, our guards need to step up or we will have a hard time beating our BE opponents. It really stood out how they were guarding Jagan. They weren't guarding him outside the paint, let alone out by the 3 point line.

again i LOL at anyone who complains about our OOC schedule. we have to kinda squeak by a richmond team and need 39 minutes to put away Howard. please refrain from complaining about our OOC schedule until we've won multiple games against top-half big east teams. even a win against syracuse does nothing to dispel the fact that we are not consistently good team right now. emphasis on "right now." and dear god, don't get me started on Jeff Goodman's trolling of our schedule on twitter. Our schedule is a complete and utter embarrassing disaster on every level.
