UCONN is playing their best basketball right now. Their best game today. We came into the game playing our best basketball too. The guys just got their wake-up call today that there are levels to the game of basketball. We haven't arrived yet and there is more work ahead. This game so far isn't an indictment of an overall good season given what was expected. This game shows that we are consistently inconsistent under Pat. We are back to allowing plenty of wide open, set 3s. There is no way that those should be allowed unless the team has no defensive discipline or the players are coached that way. This has nothing to do with Ewing or the coaching staff. This is an indictment on the players. You need to ready to compete.

As a player how can you show up to game and not be ready to compete. At least be ready to compete, where is the pride on this players . This is pathetic. I will seat them all on the bench and let the rest of the guys play.

This is a complete embarrassment by the players. No hustle , this has to be very frustrated for Patrick Ewing. Carey is a TO machine , we do not get to the 50-50 balls. No taking anything away from Connecticut, they are just not missing any shots. I think, this Connecticut team is the best team in the Big East.

Traded years off my life for a win. I'll take it every time and this was a real gut check where our guys came through, but man a lot of that stress was unnecessary. Thought we had a really good defensive game plan to start. As several posters predicted, putting Pickett on Freemantle and Q on Carter really put Xavier in a position where they couldn't exploit either. Pickett was a beast defensively all night and IMO, the two most important plays of the game (oreb putback to go up 5 and then rescuing an errant late Bile entry pass from 3 defenders to get fouled) came from him. Q for the most part stayed at home and did what he needed to do to protect the paint. Rebounds and TOs were always going to be huge as they always were, and although we were sloppy against the press, staying even at 12-12 in TOs is a win for this group. As for the boards... +12 in the first half when we built a big lead. -10 in the second half when we allowed them to furiously come back. Thought the guys battled pretty well on the boards overall; Bile, Pickett and the bigs did just enough to ward off a Xavier team that really hit an extra gear energy wise in the second half. I would also say not just for tonight but all year, Dante is a plus rebounder for his position and size. Kid is not afraid to attack the glass on the defensive end which is impressive. Q and Tim both continue to progress with kicking the ball out against double teams and are starting to look to pass more often in post situations where they don't have a clear advantage. This led to a couple of open perimeter looks that used to be turnovers in earlier games. Really liked what I saw there. Thought in general, although we made more mistakes in the first half, we were much more unselfish offensively in the first half vs. the second. Biggest culprit was Blair; he nearly shot us out of the game late with his insistence on driving into heavy traffic. The ball got way too sticky with him and it took a heroic effort from the others (Bile/Pickett from deep, Q's efficiency in the post) to make up for that. Couple that with a bunch of very lazy defensive sequences vs. Tandy late and we were a couple possessions away from really pinning another giant blown lead squarely on what should have been our rested senior leader. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Appreciated Dante gutting out another heavy minute evening when he's clearly not 100%, but the decision-making could have been a lot better tonight. I do think he bothered Scruggs defensively though. And while I wasn't happy with Tim getting T'ed up, the fact that he got Scruggs on matching technicals ended up being pretty big down the stretch. Even less happy with Q hanging on the rim (can you imagine if that had ended up costing us?) Bile/Kuenkel might be the weirdest feud in the history of the NBE. Those two CLEARLY don't like each other. Curious decision by Ewing to not have a big on the floor during the stretch run. First time all year I can think of him doing that. Even more curious decision having Berger, ice cold on the bench for the first 39.5 minutes, on the floor in a closeout situation. Would love to hear his rationale and hope someone asks about it in the post-game. Overall, I'm obviously happy with the end result. That was a loss earlier in the season to Nova and Marquette. We still have a long ways to go in many areas, but anytime the current group can learn to win and overcome some serious adversity in doing it, that's a positive. Exactly , my thoughts about Ewing decisions at the end of the game.

Georgetown was lucky to win this game at the end. Patrick did everything possible to lose this game . Took Wahab out of the game for the last two or three minutes and then brought Berger in . And Berger was foul immediately. He brought Berger in as another ball handler to break the press. Berger just got the yips at the line but is usually a good shooter. Berger did not play a second during the game, that is why he was foul immediately.

Both Blair and Carey were terrible. I have no idea how many TO did Carey commit.

Three quick comments: 1. Best defensive effort that I have seen this year 2. Excellent rebounding 3. We are winning the 50-50 balls Excellent preparation by the coaching staff for this game so far.

Overall a good game, we need to clean the bonehead TO. I am extremely happy for Patrick, the coaches and especially the players.

Pickett's level of game has improved exponentially since the Covid break. I think the team's level of game has improved significantly since the Covid break.

I just going to make one comment, this team is really bad. I can not imagine Patrick Ewing's patience, 23 boneheaded TO mostly by the seniors. The best player by far is our freshman PG, Dante Harris. His composure during the game is beyond his years .

Again our Seniors have zero basketball IQ, with three consecutive TO . Do you think “basketball IQ” can be improved or is it innate? Looking on our seniors , it is obvious that it is not innate on them.

I am pleasantly surprise on how compose is Sibley is for a freshman . I do not understand why he does not play more.

I am sorry , but todays meltdown down the stretch was on the players. Specially on Carey at the end of the game.

Exactly, the players need to make better decisions. Patrick Ewing did not play one second in this game.

Good question.. When was the last time you saw adjustments made at the half by the Hoyas? You saw them today. The adjustments are just bad. What adjustment we were winning by 16 points !!!!!. Again we do not have a good team.

We can not sugarcoated this team is really bad. There is nothing that can Patrick Ewing can do to change that. We have graduate players like Carrey making freshman turnovers, Blair and Bile shooting from three without running the offense and Pickett completely disappears during the game.
