I think Epps is a perfect example of just how close we are to turning this thing around.

Not realizing that she was doing the same thing😎 Exactly! 😂😂😂 Well she was just seventeen You know what I mean And the way she looked Was way beyond compare So how could I dance with another, Oh, when I saw her standing there Well she looked at me And I, I could see That before too long I'd fall in love with her She wouldn't dance with another Oh, when I saw her standing there Well my heart went boom When I crossed that room And I held her hand in mine Oh we danced through the night And we held each other tight And before too long I fell in love with her Now I'll never dance with another Oh, when I saw her standing there

She wasn’t pretty, but she was all that was left standing around late at the party. So I said, “Ah, what the heck!” Not realizing that she was doing the same thing😎 Exactly! 😂😂😂

I wonder how our conference rivals Xavier and St. John’s did it. Sure, they’re not competing for a Final Four this year, but at least they look respectable. At this point, the bar is so low some here would think that 3 BE wins would be a success while using all sorts of excuses. Have you noticed how Cooley says no excuses, but then throws around a bunch of them? I bought Cooley’s introductory press conference hook, line and sinker. I was pumped. I was a believer. But, as I said when recruiting closed for this season and the roster was set, I don’t sense the urgency from Cooley and staff. It might be that they know that there’s nothing like GU job security. I realize I'm regurgitating facts you already know PR, but it's also why these takes, like the Casual Hoya piece, feel devoid of reality on some levels. Are most of our expectations incredibly low? Yes. Have we thus far even hit that incredibly low bar? No. But it's been 14 games. Total. 2 with a full roster (or at least the full complement of rotation pieces). Heath missed nearly the entire pre season with a foot injury. Epps has been injured or sick 4 different times. Massoud broke his hand. Rowan missed a week. For those that want to criticize Cooley for season 1s lack of depth or even enough talent - seems like fair game to me. But also there needs to be some reality mixed in. The staff had been recruiting to fill Providence holes with a message of competing for BE championships. Now the message overnight became, we can offer you a ton of playing time on a team trying to resurrect a program before theyd even stepped foot in the doors of the TAC. A big change. Guys like Fielder were on board, as well as recruits like Sorber and Mulready, but that's a much harder pitch in the portal. They went after lower minute or unhappy with their role players at other Power 5s. I'd say they hit with guys like Styles and Epps while missed with Massoud. Cook was the plan D at Center and honestly, he's been mostly OK compared to others. They retained 3 good character guys from the last 2 BE win team. Unfortunately none of them are high Bball IQ or BE starter level talent. The cupboard was bare and their years of recruiting focus changed overnight. Now they have a bag of NIL to work with and time to lay the groundwork and planning for a roster with hopefully some of the foundation set up. Now take Xavier and St. John's who you mentioned. Miller is in year 2. And took over a bubble level team that went 23-13 the year before he took over. They won 4x the BE games in the year before Miller took over than we've won in the last 2 previous seasons combined. Same with St. John's. 18-15 last year. 7 big east wins. And instead of keeping 3 character guys on a horrible team, Pitino got to keep a 1st team All BE player at a premium position to center things around. And has no current plan for the future as they have 5 of their top 6 players exiting after the season and not a decent recruiting class in sight at this stage. I'm not sure they're even top 40. So it will be all portal all the time again and another class of mercenaries. I don't fault that approach, but one has to admit it's much different than the one Cooley and Gtown are taking. As for Cooleys "excuses" or lack of urgency...it's 14 games. Less than half of season. They're bad. So he preaches patience. What's he supposed to say? It's like the Pro sports owner or GM who says this is NOT a rebuild...when it's obviously a rebuild. He's not dumb - he knows this year's going to suck. He shouldn't have to say it out loud. You guys know I was very supportive of Ewing. In hindsight, that was a mistake. The last five years were devastating to the program! Let’s give Cooley three years! If nothing changes, let’s get that guy over at Providence.

If you have ever coached, or led young people at any level, you come to realize what a humbling experience it is. Things just don’t often go as you planned them! It can be most frustrating! And yes, sometimes, it does take time! What makes this situation so horrendous is that the powers that be allowed it to go on as long as it did. And yes, it looks a lot like de ja vous! Rebuilding usually does!

At the risk of offending some on this Board, I still maintain there is much fun watching this developing story we have going on with this team! Sometimes you just have to learn to enjoy the process!

That's where I am. In addition to being pretty baffled by the degree of impatience somewhat in evidence here. I think part of the problem is that not only did we have several bad years under Ewing, but there was absolutely no hope because he was a horrible coach. So when people see our team doing poorly this year, everyone thinks it's more of the same and won't get better. I realize that some people on here do not like Cooley. I realize many of us wanted Rick Pitino. BUT, the flip side of that is that Ed Cooley has consistently had MUCH better teams in the Big East over a decade. There is no reason to think that Cooley won't improve, in contrast to Ewing, who seemed to get worse by the year. We also have talented freshman coming in, and I think even with a poor season, Cooley will have an easier time recruiting in the portal this year. Last year, he was basically marketing joining Georgetown in what would be a rebuilding year. Next year, he can sell it as "this is the next step," bolstered by our incoming freshman, and hopefully guys like Epps, Styles, etc. will stick around. I am very confident things will get better, even if nobody is happy with where we are right now. Perfecto! Well said! Need not say anymore! Great job!

The journey back to prominence is sometimes long and painful. I am reminded of the plane that flew over Giants Stadium in 1979. “15 Years of Lousy Football, We’ve Had Enough” In short order, George Young was in place and respectability and success followed. I hope Ed Cooley is our George Young. As an aside, someone should clear a flight plan over MetLife as the Giants have basically sucked since Super Bowl 46. From the look that I see on Cooley’ face on the sidelines, it must be excruciatingly painful. After all, who loves losing? Who loves to see the team you coached the last several years do as well as Providence is doing—while you are losing! Then you glance over there, and St Johns is having some success. It must be tough. Hopefully, Cooley, this year will learn the lesson that Ewing didn’t. If you are coming to play in the BE, you had better packed your lunch—and some! No body is going to have mercy or pity on you.

This is really not going well so far. It’s not losing these games - it’s the way we are losing them. No fire, barely competitive at all. It’s a very very disappointing start for this new coaching regime, and may signal that the rot in this program remains and runs far deeper than we feared. Just ugly. I think this is way too pessimistic! This is our first year with a whole cadre of new players. Our players are good, they just don’t have that cohesion yet. Patience, friends!

Just another note again, threes are the key variable. We were 5/25 and we can’t beat much of anybody like that. Rebounding was acceptable, but interior D and 19 turnovers continued to kill. The thing is Marquette is good and that has a lot to do with struggling to get shots. Guys, I have been saying this for years, now. The exceptional teams in today’s college game, they are not playing for the two point shots. The two point shot is more of a coy. In today’s game, and when it comes to shooting, we need to not have not just one or two weapons; we need to have a team of weaponize players! You just can’t pass up that shot!

Notre Dame is not an awful team! As a matter of fact, I would say we are evenly matched, in the same place as far as development goes. With the coaching—both coaches seem like excellent coaches—I believe both teams can make a run this year. Notre Dame’ coach was definitely disappointed in his team’s performance. Which tells me he has very high expectations for this year.
