Oh, and who else thought Longwood was in Jersey before last nights game? I figured it was in Florida, honestly. Until I looked it up three weeks ago, I was confusing it with Northwood University (in Florida), where Massimino coaches in semi-retirement.

...talk amongst yourselves... should we start an attendance roll-call? My favorite Phone Booth usher told me they are not expecting anyone to show up and only scheduled the bare minimum of staff tonight. Please tell me that "bare minimum" includes the beer guys...

No. No. NO. Benimon was not the best player on the court; Benimon would not start for this team. That's reactionary nonsense and you're searching for things to get upset about.
This wasn't a particularly pleasant game to sit through; the beer vendor (God bless him) walked away with a lot of my money today. Here's the black and white of it: we shot poorly, but we won. No, the team can't get away with this later against better competition, but for right now they DID get away with it today. They're 7-1 and they haven't been playing their best ball on a consistent basis yet. I find that encouraging, that they can win (and not just against sub-par competition, they beat Tennessee with worse offensive output) when their shots aren't falling.
Anyone who speaks longingly with regards to this *ONE* good Benimon stat-line should remember that his departure allowed the arrival of Greg/Otto (take your pick) - and ALL of their games, not just this one-game sample set (context and broader scope: UCLA and Indiana games, remember?).
The Hoyas are 7-1 and are an admitted work in progress. I'd love for us to put away "easy" competition in a more convenient manner, but I'm fine with simply beating them. I'm happy with that for now (but the beer guy needs to stop IDing me since we're basically members of each others families at this point).
Hoya Saxa! On to Longwood!

Is this really all we are going to have to discuss for the next month? I know the non-conference schedule was frontloaded, and it makes sense to take it easy during exams, but this is the weakest month-long stretch of schedule since November-December 2003, aka Esherick's last MEAC Championship. How did they end up with no games at all between 12/23 and 1/5? Was it a surprise that Big East play isn't starting until 1/5? I am sure the logistics were complicated and the terms unfavorable, but it seems to me that JTIII would have wanted to find a way to make up the Florida game just to stay sharp. Instead, all that's left for December is to contemplate the demise of the Big East and spend time with our families - I don't know which is worse. I agree. The schedule for December is beyond bizarre. I can't remember us, or any team for that matter, having a full two weeks off between games. That seems crazy. We definitely should have rescheduled the Florida game in light of that gap. Dumb move by JT3. You sure it was just JT3? Florida is playing Kansas State the 22nd (in Kansas City) Air Force the 29th (Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in Sunrise, Fla) then has a game at Yale on the 6th. Allowing for travel days to these three games away from home in two weeks, and Florida's schedule isn't particularly open while we're off.

Seeing as how Josh Smith was the embodiment of everything that is wrong with UCLA this year, I found his departure interesting. Did he look around at the squad, say "Gosh, everyone on this team is fat, lazy, and selfish... THAT'S MY THING! I'm outta here!"

yeah he's saying the suspension is more on that team than say an injury would be. An injury really can't be avoided but a suspension can be. Misread... Cool, I might have been unclear in my wording, but HSB's wording of my point is correct. Also, I think almost all fans would support coaches who take disciplinary when warranted; I like to think that few fans would revel in a kid getting hurt (obvious exception: Rautins. Because screw that guy!) So glad basketball's back. I was coming dangerously close to productivity at work.

I know I shouldn't look it this way, but with Wilbekin suspended, rather than out with an injury, it feels like less of an "excuse" if(when) we win.
Agree?

That's the plan. Don't think anyone is going to get there anytime soon though. Given the "guaranteed" 32 games this year (30 RS games + 1 BET + 1 assumed post season game of some sort) Otto would need to average 21.25/night to break 1000 this year. So yeah, not real likely. (sorry for the hijacking this thread, but didn't want to spoil the sanctity/continuity of the "countdown" thread)

Saw a post on letsrun that claimed that former Gtwn runner Mike Smith was offered the job--have no idea if true--or typical idle speculation/misinformation Interesting. He was a distance runner; I also think he transferred into GU. Came from JMU with Henner. Roomed with Milt for a year.

List is outdated. See corrections below. For some perspective on how Georgetown 1500m runners have fared in the past, the list of the top 10 American runners includes two Georgetown graduates: American All Time Performance List Name Venue Date Mark Benard Lagat Rieti 08/28/2005 3:29.30 Sydney Maree Koln 08/25/1985 3:29.77 Alan Webb Paris Saint-Denis 07/06/2007 3:30.54 **Andrew Wheating Monaco 07/22/2010 3:30.90** Jim Spivey Koblenz 08/28/1988 3:31.01 Steve Holman Bruxelles 08/22/1997 3:31.52 Steve Scott Nice 07/16/1985 3:31.76 David Krummenacker Stockholm 07/16/2002 3:31.93 **Lopez Lomong Monaco 07/22/2010 3:32.20** **Leonel Manzano Brussels 08/27/2010 3:32:37** Lopez Lomong Monaco 07/28/2009 3:32.94 Jim Ryun Los Angeles, CA 07/08/1967 3:33.1 Christopher Lukezic Roma 07/14/2006 3:33.28
