Not sure anyone is satisfied with the state of the program Elvado.
Some understand that it is a process and that coaching stability matters. Others want to burn the place down, re-litigate why Ewing was hired 5 years ago, and anticipate playing the victim on the next coaching hire.
Negativity rarely accomplishes anything.

I can’t believe we made it…and not a moment too soon.

The more I think about it (before seeing the players on the court this year) the more I like the idea of Rice as a 6th man who can come in and change offensive momentum. He could substitute for JBill, Aminu, or Carey. I really hoping the talk about JBill showing well so far is true. We could really use a stretch 4 with his frame and outside shot. If JBill can play small ball 5, Rice could come in for Tim as well.

Transfers are part of today’s game. Speculation about individuals is inappropriate, and I believe against board rules. These speculations can also become self-fulfilling. It’s best to acknowledge in general and not get specific . Again, I am not speculating that any player will transfer. I am asking WSD how he would feel if players that haven't gotten PT or been injured transfer and gave some concrete names because otherwise people would just assume I was talking about the best players and mold the conversation to fit their agenda. Speculation would be something like "Akinjo blew off Coach's last minute play, he's clearly unhappy and likely going to transfer". Now you are playing word games. Inviting speculation about specific players is itself speculation.

Crazy the amount of “stay with us through the highs and lows” and “it’s work in progress” comments and that does not give any confidence in terms of wins this year. Please just don’t ruin the young guys’ confidence and please find a way to keep them together for next year. That’s all I ask. If we can do that I don’t care if we go 0-30. Will you be upset when one of Holloway or Kobe transfer? Not looking good that both are injured again going into their 2nd season...if you can't get on the court you're going to get passed by. If either miss a ton of time or can't get into the rotation, I wouldn't be surprised to see them leave. Thanks for the first hand account thedragonCan we not freaking speculate about transfers?….and before the 1st game? JFC @dan will you handle this?

Basketball is back...here is a summary for last night... BIG EAST:On paper it looks good as the BE went 8-0. That being said beyond Nova, UConn and St Johns all the other games (despite the final score) were grinds. Creighton was down 9 at half before a huge 2nd half run to pull away. Providence and Xavier were close most of the 2nd half. None of those 5 other games were high level opponents. Justin Moore (Nova) had 27pts and 7Ast. Sanogo (Uconn) had 20pts and 5reb. Scruggs (Xavier) 17pts, 6ast and 5reb. O'Connell for Creighton and Morsell (former MD guard) now at Marquette also had big games. DARTMOUTH:Lost to Boston College by 16, never really a close game they were down 23 at half. Brendan Barry who was discussed a lot here is actually back at Dartmouth which I didn't realize (He spent his first 3 at Dartmouth, played a year at Temple and now is back - I guess a good reason why you never burn bridges). He was awful from 3 (2-11) but will be their main threat and clearly has the green light to shoot. WAHAB:Sorry someone has to mention it...good game versus an awful opponent (Quinnipiac). Started, had 17 points on 7-10 shooting, 6REB 2BLK in 17 minutes...and 2AST (WTF?!?!). That may match his total for last season. LEBLANC:Now at UAB...8pts (3 for 3 shooting) 7REB and 2BLK. Did not start and played 23 minutes. SIBLEY:Now at UTEP...6pts (3 for 3 shooting as well) 5REB in 19 minutes. Also did not start. CUSE:They won, Boeheim's combined for 36 points enough said... OTHERS:- Ohio St (17 pt favorites) needed last second shot to beat Akron - George Mason, GW and Howard all won - Ricky Lindo now with GW had 17pts, 9REB and 6BLK, that should be great situation for him - Kansas beat Mich St and Duke beat Kentucky in the only match up of ranked teams - Virgina lost to Navy, Navy's first top 25 win since the Admiral was there - oops - Pitt lost to Citadel, oops - Gtech lost to Miami Oh, oops - as mentioned above by hoya95 not a great night for ACC - Chris Lykes had 16 in his Arkansas debut - Remember the much discussed Brandon Murray? Had 7 in his debut for LSU, Efton Reid had 16 and 6REB in his LSU debut. - Nebraska (17 point favs) lost to Western Ill - Patrick Baldwin had 21 and 10 in his first game at Milw, they won - Chet Homlgren is a walking double double. 14 points (on only 6 shots) 13REB, 6AST and 7BLKs. STUD. Did have 7 TO's but who cares... - Texas Tech is 1-0 without McClung - Old friend Antwan Walker 0pts, 5REB and 5 fouls in 19 minutes in a URI win Plenty of others I could have mentioned but I don't have all morning... ***I will say this and hope everyone keeps in mind. No matter who you are for the most part these first few games for any team is not a breeze. Ton of teams struggled tonight, could have been double that # of upsets last night easily. Again keep in mind for Saturday for Gtown. A struggle but a win against lesser opponents would not be out of the ordinary in the least for 80% of the teams these first few weeks*** Well done summarizing all the of interest story lines.

My point is we all need to get to a place where we aren’t excited about what this program could be in a year or two with the talent the staff has put together. This notion of let’s just hang on here as they are about to turn the corner is constant false hope. I like this verbal but it doesn’t help this year or likely his first year in campus. This is a grown adult asking, “Are we there yet?” Whining that this recruit doesn’t help us the year before he matriculates is a new….I don’t know how to describe other than … ‘low’

Really hoping he silences his haters on this board this season We will all start feeling better when we stop worrying about the approval of a few unhappy people.

I believe that the key to this season (and possibly Ewing's future as a coach) is the development of this young man. With the loss of Tre King (how often do we talk about the loss of a Hoya player?) the ability to compete with other BE schools comes down to having a credible presence in the post. Hopefully this kid can provide some offense away from the basket and still be reasonably effective on defense and in rebounding. I get the fans see Ryan as the great savior. I think that is putting too much on him. On a positive note....I saw one report behind a paywall about Tim against Temple that I can only hope was true. I think the key is for the team to buy in and play team basketball. That is why the defense came together in the 2nd half of the season last year. And that sounds like what the problem was against Virginia with the perimeter defense. There is no savior on this team, but there are a bunch of interesting and talented players including Ryan & Tim. If they can learn to play together quickly, then we have something.

If there are 230 better players in his class, then I am a monkey's uncle.
Until we can consistently get Top 50 players, I will take the Dante Harris, Jordan Riley, D'Ante Bass types all day long.
Recruiting stars are for people who don't have enough knowledge to invent criteria and standards for assessment for themselves. Clearly, Patrick and the staff know how to identify talent.

This kid looks to be a great addition who can help put pressure on other Big East programs. Just try to keep up with us.

No one on the team is stepping up to take charge. Do we really need someone stepping in and taking a charge during scrimmage? Its a little early in the year to risk injury for a scrimmage. I think you misread. Taking initiative..not drawing a foul.

These are crazy days. There is a group of fans who insist on seeing game content BEFORE the 1st game. Meanwhile, there is another group of fans who will burn the place down if they don’t see a finished product on the floor.
The first game is November 13th…which is so early. I remember watching AI in his first game maybe the day before Thanksgiving in 1994.
Glad I don’t work in this industry.

No one on the team is stepping up to take charge. Thanks, @blueadgray Sound like we need a leader. As captain, it should be Carey. Maybe he’s leadership skills are underdeveloped. Sounds like we need Dante as PG or Aminu as the most talented player to get vocal and take over. It will be interesting to see steps into the void. Mutombo is likely too young and inexperienced to be much help here yet.

No good reason? Maybe Ewing and staff don’t approach the scrimmage as a quasi-game as Creighton may have. What if it is full of experiments? Not sure I understand how the manner in which the Creighton program handles their post game presentation of a preseason game has any bearing on how their coaching staff approaches the game. This is much more about the behind the scenes folks in the Gtown program than the coaching staff Maybe it is..and maybe it isn’t.

Here’s how Creighton handles their meaningless exhibition game… There’s no good reason Gtown shouldn’t do something similar for it’s program No good reason? Maybe Ewing and staff don’t approach the scrimmage as a quasi-game as Creighton may have. What if it is full of experiments?

I’m starting to think about analytics for the new season.
I see KenPom starts the Hoyas at #76 - #8 in the conference.
Offensive efficiency is forecasted at 105.5 ranked #83
Defensive efficiency 94.1 ranked #65
Possessions are forecasted at 73.7 ranked #77
So our defense is respected more than our offense. Tempo appears less than I expect.
Anyone remember which website provides PPP by player/line-up? I can’t remember and need to renew my subscription. I,l probably renew Synergy as well. Any new stats services that are worthwhile?
