Wait... women play basketball? I thought the point of their game is to turn the ball over and airball the most

How was the women's recruiting for next year? Are our girls just out-talented on the court or is it a mixture of things? Don't know about the recruiting, but I think improving shooting consistency from 15-20 feet and improving conditioning will do wonders for this team.

You guys sure pay a lot of attention to post count. In my opinion, it's not how often you talk, but what you have to say. I always have something important to say; but sometimes it goes over your collective heads. Then please don't talk so much

I hate to give hifi any sort of recognition but, if I'm honest, I have to give this the nod for funniest post of the off-season. (hopefully my meaning here does not go "over anyone's head.")

I predict that I will: 1. Not watch a single minute 2. Get annoyed with women's players commenting on mens' game 3. Go back to the story of the ESPN PPV showing me the DePaul women's game that was on ESPN 2 and forcing me to miss an entire half of the GU-WVU game 2 years ago. 4. I could draw more people to a Jim Boeheim appreciation rally on the campus of Georgetown, then a WNBA game--oh wait, forgot about the Mystics Attendance Championship Banners. Mea Culpa.

It's bad enough that we have to deal with some of the negatives that result from Title IX at the amateur level, but the same thing is happening at the professional level as well. For those who didn't know, the WNBA contract is tied to the NBA contract. The networks which cover NBA games are required to cover some number of WNBA games as well. This is passed on to the advertisers, so those who advertise during NBA games also must advertise for WNBA games. Now I have a hunch there is a double standard. I bet dollars to doughnuts that if you just want to advertise during the WNBA games you will probably not meet much resistance.

It bothers me that ABC/ESPN goes through such lengths to sabotage the WNBA. They hardly ever notify us when a game will be played. They put the games on ESPN2 while running poker or something equally non-sports related on ESPN. I'm not the biggest fan of the WNBA, but the ladies are definitely getting the dookie end of the stick.

I'm not the biggest fan of the WNBA, but the ladies are definitely getting the dookie end of the stick. I don't see it that way. Simply from the economic viewpoint, the capitalist in me says that demand should fuel supply and the free market shouldn't be tinkered with. The justification at the high school and college levels is that the genders should have similar opportunities. Let's face it: schooling is not all about economics but rather preparing youngsters for the real world. I disagree with how Title IX is set up, but admit that there is some legitimate underlying intent there. In the case of the "real" world, we shouldn't be forced or coerced into supporting what we don't want to support. In any case, the coverage is better than it should be. If the demand was there, then the coverage would be greater not worse. The very nature of a "forced" coverage tells you that it is more than demand would justify. I saw some ridiculous stat last year. Something like 92% of the average "attendance" at a WNBA game is either receiving comped tickets or family or the sort. Only 8% are just normal fans. That is insane.

I actually like watching the better college teams in the women's game. It annoys me that Georgetown has to be so embarrassingly bad at it. But then we suck at football, too, so why should I be surprised?
Last I heard Rebekah Brunson was playing for . . . Sacramento in the WNBA? So Georgetown does get at least some capable players.

yeah that one WNBA jersey that hangs in McDonough.
I thought the idea behind women's basketball was that their solid fundamentals and team work made up for the fact that they can't dunk or make exciting plays. But all the game's i've watched they don't even have solid fundamentals. I don't get it. Even watching Uconn when we played them, they didn't have good fundamentals. I'm confused.

I honestly don't know why I don't like women's basketball. I have given it several chances but I simply can't watch it. It isn't a sexist thing at all. I have been to, and taken my kids to women's tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, smimming/diving and softball. I enjoyed all of them and would go again. I have been to a couple of lady gator hoops games however, and simply never enjoyed them. A couple of years back I wagered on the NCAA women's game when it was on TV, just to try to make it more interesting. It was slightly more interesting, in that I did keep clicking back to the game to check on my bet, but I still couldn't sit there and watch it. The only other event of that sort that I have been to in person and didn't enjoy was soccer. In fairness, it was very muggy night and the mosquitos were especially bad as well. I haven't been back since. I also think that in person, the field is just to big to really appreciate the game. I have watched matches on TV however and enjoyed them.
So in all honesty, women's basketball is the only sport which I cannont enjoy. Hell, I even caught a bit of the UPA (Ultimate Frisbee Championship) the other day on CSTV (College Sports TV) and enjoyed it.

Personally, I enjoy the women's game. To say they can't make exciting plays is flat out incorrect. The women's game is different than the men's game. If you expect to see the men's game, then you will be disappointed. They do not play above the rim, and are not as "athletic". When I lived in Louisiana, I rarely missed LSU women's games. Temeka Johnson, all 5'3" of her, was a magician with the ball. Set the LSU record for career assists. She ran the break as well as any man in college ball. But I know I'm trying to swim up Niagara Falls here....

I try and enjoy women's basketball. It's just that the games i've watched haven't been very good. I've watched some good women's basketball games so i know it can be done. Just when i watch the games at gtown I say way too many missed 3 pointers and lay ups. That's what makes it frusterating.
