I found this paragraph in the game article on the Davidson site.
"Davidson managed to cut the lead to nine points on four occassions in the second half, but Georgetown answered with a three-pointer three of the four times. After missing a trifecta with 14:02 remaining in the contest, Georgetown nailed its next eight shots — six threes — over the next 11 minutes to build its lead to 20-plus points"
Did we really hit eight shots in a row and six threes at one point? I was in the chat room last night, but I didn't realize the stretch was that impressive. When would have been the last time we hit eight in a row (let's exclude any time where Sweets hit eight in a row for us)?

We probably never hit six threes in a row until last night.

Davidson-Duke boxscore: sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=243270150Not to make comparisons, but to dispel the notion that Davidson played over its head and Duke was at its worst. Davidson shot 38%, committed 18 turnovers, had 2 guys foul out, fell behind by 20, cut the lead to 4, and lost by 13. They outrebounded Duke 35-27, including 11 offensive boards. Duke shot 43%, 28% from 3, had a 10 point advantage from the foul line, and committed only 9 turnovers. Four Dukies scored in double figures. Redick and Ewing played the full 40 minutes, Randolph 36. Davidson forward Kosmalski had 25 pts and 13 reb. Guard Winters had 24 and 8. Duke had a 19-0 run to go from down 18-22 to up 37-22, then opened the lead to 44-24. Davidson had a 27-11 stretch to cut it to 4, 55-51 with 5:41 to go. Then Duke had an 8-0 run and the lead did not get below 10 again.

Great post, I think people are really trying their hardest to find negatives. Obviously we shouldnt get too high after this win, but lets not undervalue it either.
The biggest difference is what happened with Logan Kosmalski. I don't know if he was just completely off last night or if our defense forced him to struggle, but that was a huge factor in the outcome.
I think the rebounding stats and stuff like that are very promising though. The fact that Davidson outrebounded Duke by 8 and we won the rebounding battle for the third straight game is a huge sigh of relief after last season.
Also, we played Davidson at Belk and broke their 15 game home winning streak, something Duke did not want to get themselves into and thus the game played off campus in Charlotte.

Perhaps those of you with HS coaching experience (or better) know more, but if you are up substantially against a team in the 2nd half, won't you try to run a "model" of your offense, like in a scrimmage, since you're pretty sure you won't lose? I'm thinking perhaps III started just running plays out of the book to see how the team would execute. From what I've read, they are able to execute these plays against Davidson (a slower team). But, it still may show III how teams will try to react. And how to make adjustments in the future.
My $0.02.

I haven't seen any of the games so my comments are based on others' reviews and stats. With that caveat: -Seems like III has settled on a rotation of 7, maybe 8 if Reed comes around. That leaves the others mostly out. -We are going to be a better shooting team than in the past. We are also going to be a better ballhandling team. -Our success will be heavily dependent on how Roy progresses because we will need his development to have more of an inside game. Last year showed what happens when you do not have a real inside threat. -Owens seems to continue to be unwilling to shoot. -III's first recruit (Wallace) appears to be a winner leading me to think we can look forward to his recruits for next year to also be good. -This team is going to be heard from in the Big East this year and will be capable of playing with almost any other conference foe. -I like what I'm "seeing".

On the rotation, I think there's a good chance it expands a bit by necessity in the Big East. There may be games where our two freshman post players get into foul trouble at the same time.
Hopefully, whoever comes in at that point can step it up.

In most big east games, you will have at least one to two players in foul trouble, so I think the rotation is likely to hover around 9 players. With Reed, Crawford and/or Guibunda filling the final 2 spots depending on the opponent. However, if we play it slow on offense and don't turn the ball over a lot then we might not have that much foul trouble or fatigue requiring a deeper rotation.

The score says G’town blew Davidson out; the reality is that Davidson missed a lot of open 3s, especially in the first half. According to factcheck.nodak 1) Davidson shot 40.9% from 3 2) Cumulative % for all BE teams so far... 37.6% (from bigeast.org) The BE team data is from games presumably against some lesser pre-season competition, therefore one would expect less than BE quality perimeter D. And yet the conference as a whole is shooting a lower percentage from 3 than Davidson did. I wouldn't expect the conference to shoot 3's at a much better rate than Davidson did last night.

While not getting carried away with this one, the guys still have a ways to go- don't undervalue this win either. This was a good win.
Some people are just impossible to please- you win, it must have been the other team's bad. You lose, you're the worst team in the recorded history of sport.
Moderation, guys. Remember to take your alpha-blockers.

I don't think we'll ever do a lot of pressing and running under JTIII. I'm perfectly content with a 7-man rotation if the results show up like they did last night.... If he never plans on playing more than seven as you suggest then he should stop trying to fill all 13 scholarships and use, say, ten schollies instead. Everyone here is jumping to conclusions on what's going on in JT3's head. We don't have an idea of what he is going to do. I'm willing to bet in the future he will be pressing more and using more players but of course I can't say for sure either.
