I mean, c'mon! Crean makes about FOUR times as much!

I thought this quote was interesting, but not surprising: "When the new president [DeGioia] took over at Georgetown, I can tell you what his thought process was: We're getting basketball back (on track) because this is an important part of the image that we're trying to sell. And that's one of excellence, not just academic but athletic. …"
Thank you Jack for realizing that making the NCAAs every year is NOT ‘an unreasonable’ expectation.
Go Hoyas!

I mean, c'mon! Crean makes about FOUR times as much! You want a laugh: Tom Crean has won as many NCAA tournament games in his first 7 years as Georgetown has won over that same time period. He just won them all in a row with Dwayne Wade to become "the next big thing" and it made him millions. Always tough to look at the inflated numbers for some of these guys for having one good year and turning hype into dollars.

Interesting that Pops is paid more than JTIII . . . I bet that makes for some fun conversation at the Thanksgiving table!
JTIII will get what he wants when he asks -- the admin has to realize what he has done for the program and the school in the short time he has been here.
I wonder how his G'town salary compares to his Princeton salary -- that is prob. a more important metric than how he compares to Tubby Smith.
EDIT: Locker -- you beat me to my 1st point. didn't refresh -- sorry for the clutter.

It's also kinda crazy that two Biostatistics professors make more money than JTIII. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that our professors are paid well, I just didn't know that Biostats was such a lucrative field.

Yeah, I was puzzled by biostats -- I would have thought deans of law and med school, or some research scientist that is inventing all sorts of lucrative stuff. Then again, maybe the biostats guys are doing that . . . it would be helpful if I knew what biostats was.

I hope there is some deferred comp in their for III at some point. I hope he wants to be a lifer at G'town and there are other perks because if he were in it for the money, we wouldn't have a coach right now.

It was kind of embarassing to see some of the schools with higher paid coaches--San Diego St., Alabama Birmingham, etc.

The biostats guy is doing plenty of cutting edge stuff that is bringing in big research contracts, you can be sure of that doublehoya. Big money. He is pretty much the #1 guy at the Lombardi Center, at least the biggest shot who is actually on the payroll, not contracting. When they find a solution to breast cancer, it will be discovered in part because of his work. GU is one of the schools where that is worth more than winning a game, albeit a very big game that I really want us to win. Then again, like JT II, he is in am emeritus position at this point and still raking it in. dbbb.georgetown.edu/gehan.html

Can't wait for the next Plotkin meltdown... Tony Kornheiser says "Plotkin Must Die" about twice a week on his new radio show.

This is irrelevant... III is a humble guy, Muir loses sleep over this very point, but the only way we can treat III right is by Athletics at GU raising more money.
Marquette blows GU away on athletic fundraising. They also sell more tickets to games, with a more favorable lease.
We're doing better this year- record attendance and record HHC donations- but if anyone thinks their donation to GU is insignificant, just think about life without JT3 because 1) we couldn't afford to pay him; and 2) we couldn't get him the facility he has LOUDLY asked for.
Physicians, heal thyself! Folks, you have the power to give the AD the resources to pay III. Remember that when you are complaining about seat donation levels. It's not gonna come from any other source.

I honestly had no idea what biostats is all about but I know G'town does incredible cancer research, and I am sure he is worth every penny.

If JT3 were in it for the money, he'd still probably be our coach now -- coming from Princeton, this had to have been a pretty sweet gig. It's in a few years that we will figure out how much the money means to him, when someone that can pay him a whole lot more money and offer him significantly nicer facilities comes along and tries to woo him away. It'll happen, and I hope DeGioia reacts appropriately. But thats a few years away. I don't want to even think about that anymore while we're still playing basketball.

It's not gonna come from any other source. Unfortunately, too many people here don't make that connection. They see the increase in donations, and say things like "Why isn't the schedule better?" If you want to gripe about being asked to give more to the Hoop Club and the Athletic Dept, fine. Just don't complain if/when III walks away for a larger payday somewhere else...

I am pretty sure whenever JTIII starts getting more lucrative offers, we'll be there to match them..No way DeGoia lets him go after what he's done here the last couple of years..JTIII ever leaving for more money is a dead issue to me...

Agreed...Contract extensions and pay raises should be the last thing on anybody's mind right now, especially JTIII's and the team. Let that stuff figure itself out when the season is over. For now, let's just focus on winning 9 straight!

Also, do not underestimate the personal friendship and connection that President DeGioia has built with both coaches over the years and his awaremeness of the value of the program to the University overall. People constantly sell him short in this regard - and they should not.
