We have 3 seasons left:
1.) Regular season - win tonight and then focus on Saturday. 2.) Big East Tourney - one game at a time. 3.) NCAA Tourney - one game at a time.
III will have the fellas focused on the next game to be played. So streaks at this point don't really matter. Win tonight and then we can talk about the next one.

Screw that! I'd rather lose to UConn than the Cuse tonight. Nothing is wrong with a winning streak. HOYA FAN ANNOUNCEMENT: If you are a younger fan of the program and don't know much about history between Cuse and Hoyas--let me point to the above comments by MCI Guy as proper guidance. May I also add that stories can only be told, but there is one thing that sums up Cuse-Hoyas rivalry: "MANLEY FIELDHOUSE IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED" In addition, Michael Graham decking Andre Hawkins in BET Final in '84--that went OT, Hoyas dominate the OT, Boeheim goes ape and throws a chair in rage, Patrick Ewing dominating/destroying everyone in his path. Patrick getting bananas and oranges thrown at him in Dome and called an "ape", "gorilla", "illiterate", etc... and nothing being by anyone at ESPN other then Len Berman and Bill Raferty who ALWAYS HAS OUR BACK---and that includes Vitale who acted like JJ Redick was going to get beaten to death with negative insults that were nowhere near as vicious and despicable as what Pat saw at Cuse. Charles Smith going coast to coast to beat Cuse in Dome with last second floater. Perry McDonald dominating Coleman and Seikaly over his career. The stupid "Dome Ranger" running around like a jackass during Cuse games The "DARK AGES" came upon us after Zo's Frosh year--Cuse starting taking over the rivalry and it was painful for us old timers. It all started with the blowout in Landover in big showdown game. Then came the Sam Jefferson foul from 50+ feet with Hoyas up and cost them game in eventual OT. Then it was misery until Othella showed up and got us some wins, followed by AI, and now you are caught up. GU used to OWN Cuse in big matchups--BET Final in '84, '87, and '89. Then the loss in Zo's SR year in BET Final, changed tide in the showdown games--well tonight is time for PAYBACK-- It's on--and the thing with winning streaks is that you have to learn to enjoy them and realize that anything is possible. I'm a bit supersticious when it comes to that--but ONLY if a team is undefeated--if you've lost some games--there is no rule saying you can't close out a season on a huge run. Losing never teaches you anything--other then how painful it is to lose. Winning is what develops confidence and nothing would make this program/team even tougher then taking it to the Cuse at the Dome in front of their raucous crowd and Sean McDonough--who will be in RARE FORM tonight promoting Demetrius Nichols to lengths, people will wonder if we're talking about LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwayne Wade rolled into one player. The fact is Syracuse-GU is BIG EAST BASKETBALL and there is NOTHING like beating them at any point, any game, but especially in a BIG GAME--nothing. Only thing sweeter is Championships--but in Big East it's even more sweet to beat them for it. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) is how I feel about Cuse and you will all learn--soon enough my younger fans. What he said. I still cringe over that embarrassment at Landover when Syracuse finally won on GU's "homecourt" in a rout. I still have not forgiven Sam Jefferson (the player, not the man) for his outrageous foul of Billy Owens that agve the game away (and led to perhaps the first sweep by Syracuse of Gtown in a single season). Yes, I still have these games on tape! I still hate that Carrol High School scum Lawrence "Poetry in Moten" Moten. Perhaps my fave moment ever by a GU player was in Feb 1992 at the Carrier Dome came after when Zo grabbed a rebound and Moten then leaped to grab hold of the ball along with Zo. Even as the refs blew the whistle to stop the play Moten kept tugging on the ball and began to pull it and Mourning a few feet back. Then...with Moten's back to the sideline....Zo let go of the ball and Moten, losing his balance, fell suddenly out of bounds next to a media table. Greatest. Moment. Ever. Unfortunately the Cuse beat Zo and the boys in the BET Final. I still shudder at the massacre that took place when, on ESPN, Kenny Bruner and the Hoyas got their butts kicked by Etan Thomas (Jameel Watkins was virtually raped in front of a national audience). To this day I believe that was the game that set Kenny Brunner (playing against old high school rival Jason Hart) off and led to his road of destruction. He was frustrated when his teammates could not step up alongside him and soon after he pulled a disappearing act from both the team and the school. I still bleed for Sweetney who had some of the greatest individual games ever for a BE play but still was on the losing end of three games against the Carmello-led Syracuse Orange. I hate this team.

its kind of a role reversal from the recent days when we were struggling and either NIT-bound or desperately clawing for the NCAAs while they were among the elite teams in the country. they didn't seem to worry too much about our rivalry. it sure seems like things have changed from their perspective.

Thanks to RDF for bringing the younger guys up to speed.......I've been in on this rivalry since about 1982 and it gets stronger for me every year. I HATE SU!!! There are so many players, moments, comments, etc. that make me hate them more every time I see them play. Living so close to the school makes things worse by SO much........I'm about out of comments to describe my hatred. Let's just gets this game on and kick the Orange all over the Dome......no mercy, no prisoners and not a single second of happiness for one single orange-wearing soul in that whole building tonight. GO HOYAS!!!

Call me crazy, but I really don't think a loss tonight would be a bad thing. We can still win the regular season title with a win on saturday, set our sights on the BET title at MSG the following saturday and of course the whopper on April 2nd. But there's something I don't like about entering the Dance on a 16-game winning streak. It's casual, but there's something about it that I just don't like. You got what you wanted so badly - let's see just how much this "helps" us.

I didn't 'want' a loss Frazier, I just said (and still believe), that it really wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Winning streak and a simple 'let's beat syracuse' aside, this game was utterly meaningless.
Win Saturday, grab the #1 seed, and roll into the Dance.
Casually.

BANG!
(and it's not his fault - the real reason for the loss is that I never got my lucky shirt on)

BANG! (and it's not his fault - the real reason for the loss is that I never got my lucky shirt on) That happened to me in the 1996 NCAA tourney. I threw my lucky shirt that I had worn in the Miss Valley St, Texas Tech and New Mexico games in the wash at the laundremat the morning of the UMASS game and lost it somehow. The rest is history.

Long before I was a Hoya, I was more of an anti-Cuse Big East fan more than anything else. So when UConn came into the Dome, I rooted for them. UConn came into the Dome on SU’s senior day in 1999 and 2004. Both years they were ranked highly and lost to an underdog Cuse team. And what did UConn do in 1999 and 2004? Won the National Championship. And that fact right there is ONLY reason keeping me sane right now. We know we are the better team, we should win. And I have bet heavily with my cuse friends and family on this game. So the last thing I want right now is for Gtown to lose. And I don't think we will. But all I'm saying is, theres a little luck to losing in the Dome on senior day if we do. this will be remembered

The only value I see in this post is the ability to give the rest of us someone to blame. The good news for CH is that Dan will share some of that blame.
