He doesn't deserve to win national POY, but after he dominates Pitt on Saturday, he'll deserve to be in the conversation.

keep it rolling - it's a shame Durant is so dominant because Jeff would certainly have a shot at POY - as of now he should be considered third in line, if not 2nd (he's much better than Fazekas and all of these clowns.. and people recognize this)

impressive... most impressive keep it rolling - it's a shame Durant is so dominant because Jeff would certainly have a shot at POY - as of now he should be considered third in line, if not 2nd (he's much better than Fazekas and all of these clowns.. and people recognize this) I agree with you that he's much better than these guys, but I'm not so sure people recognize this. Remember how bizarre/uneducated people's polls can be, and you can see that most of the time people aren't looking as in depth at things as they should be. Unfortunately, this trend really hurts Jeff overall. That said, maybe the possibility of national POY can be another reason for him to stay. For now, I guess Jeff and Roy with have to be satisfied with being BE Co-POYs.  |

For all the praise that practically all announcer's give, I'm pessimistic that Jeff's name will be listed when the All American teams come out. Announcers/Analysts are always saying how Jeff doesn't have the numbers that stand out at you, but he's one of the best players in the country. Let's hope they remember their own words and give him the recognition he deserves.

Anytime you can legitimately talk about a guy's numbers in an offense like ours, you know he is playing out-of-his-mind good. Those numbers are pretty good in their own right, but considering the offense we run and the balance this team has, they're pretty unbelievable.

I completely agree... and as PK said, I also hope that these analysts heed their own words.. the analysts were the people i was referring to when I said I think Jeff will be recognized, but after thinking about it more - that is a horrible assumption - these analysts are fickle and forgetful and are more about promoting hype (style over substance type stuff) than a player's true contributions (and as excitable said, JG's numbers aren't half bad anyway - especially in this offense and over the last month).. regardless, if Jeff continues this level of play throughout the tourneys when the publicity grows.. he will definitely close the gap between himself and the Odens/Durants |

Jeff's name may come up more often when talking about national POY and All-American teams, but let's not kid ourselves here -- Jeff will not be seriously considered because he just does not have the gaudy stats that the writers / voters will be focusing on. Sure, as those who follow the Hoyas know, he absolutely deserves consideration. I just don't see it really happening given the standard superficial analysis and focus on stats that takes place. Hope I am wrong.

No way Jeff is even in talks about All American, any of the teams. He may get honorable mention though.....The first through 3rd teams should be these guys in some sort of order: durant, oden, tucker, nick f., noah, afflalo, law IV.
Who is Jeff's main competitors for BE POY? If we beat Pitt, Jeff should have him. Maybe Nichols since he has good stats? SU sucks tho...

Guess he could get 3rd team since the Big East POY or runner up should get some consideration there...

Pomeroy claims that our adjusted tempo is 59.7 possessions per game (raw = 59.2 possessions/game). The national average is 67.0 possessions per game. Using our adjusted tempo and Pomeroy's national tempo average, I calculated that Jeff's tempo-adjusted numbers over the last 8 would look like this (raw number times a multiplier of 1.1222): 21.8 Points 6.2 Rebounds 4.0 Assists 1.7 Blocks 1.7 Turnovers More Importantly: 8 W's in that time frame and 10 straight! Top performer on the top BE squad = BE POY. I'm too lazy to do the same thing for Roy, but there's probably a statistical argument to be made in favor of all of the Jeff/Roy Co-POY supporters. |

No kidding - he's been awesome. I agree that the national awards go to people with stats that stand out in at least one category, though; it's hard for an all-rounder on a slow-playing team to crack the top 10 in any stat category.
It might be different in the BE, where people see him more.

I dont think we get enough press and a lot of people dont care/want to know how our offense operates for Jeff to get heavy consideration (now a big run in the tourney might change all this, but speaking as of right now). I think we overestimate the publics IQ and desire to understand the game. There are plenty of people who like to just sit and watch basketball, thats it, no in depth analysis and when those people look at the stats Jeff probably wont enter their convos for POY or any significant All America mention.
PS I am not bashing the people who just watch the game I just think for basketball heads like ourselves we sometimes need to take a step back and see how the average fan views things.
