Maybe we could just go with a video of the old Polaner All Fruit commercial at the under four. It'd be terrible, but at least the old guard would get a kick out of it. Sadly, the author of this letter is off in juicebox land.
This is CBB, and you see profane things all over the place. If this is our black eye, I'll take it.
Where is the line drawn? Is anything demeaning of opponents now off limits?

It's not that it's demeaning, it's that it's lame, immature, unoriginal and stupid.

Man, it's the same bulls*** they tried to pull in my day. If it ain't that piece of paper, there's some other choice they're gonna try and make for you. You gotta do what Randall Pink Floyd wants to do man. Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N.

Here's a suggestion: You'll Never Walk Alone I didn't know those Celtics boys sang it too. I always thought it was just the Liverpool fans who sang it. My grandfather taught that song to be before I could walk. Lifelong Liverpool fan. There is nothing quite like hearing 60K thugs singing a heartbreaker like that. Hilarious.

Rant beginning: I think the only part of that article that will stay with me is that he just makes a blanket assumption that all of today's GU Fans are front runners unlike him and his buddies when they were in school. what a moron. That comment does nothing for the article and really I can't think of any reason for it to be there other than that he wants to believe he's a better fan than every one of us. Did it ever occur to him that most people become GU fans because they go here and not just because the team has become a success. OK, rant over.

Is this the same place we used to chant "Beat em up, F... em Up, Go Georgetown!" Right when the cheerleaders are spelling out H-O-Y-A-S? Cause that was one of my first memories of GU, at the 85 GU-SJU game at Cap Center when I was in HS. It was all part of Hoya Paranoia and helped build games by putting genuine fear into opposing players (well, maybe Rayful Edmunds helped too). Either way, I have one thing to say to whoever is trying to whitewash the GU game expereince and censor our fans...
Hey, You SUCK! du nuh na nuh!
I am 100% behind Bando though - get us some Chuck Brown footage, get the band blasting Feel Like Busting Loose and you will have a true DC game experience, original, edgy and generally Hot Sh... Nothing says welcome to DC like a 75 year old guy dancing to go-go in a brown felt fedora.
But more importantly, how come nobody told me JJ Reddick had a little sister? Now that would have made for some fun. And the cheers after, well they would have been poetic!

Yeah, we do H-O-Y-A-S, instead of "we're gonna beat the hell out of you" or other vesions I've heard. Actually, when we started doing R&R during my band geek years (90-93), we did chant "we're gonna beat the hell out of you". Whoever posted above (sorry!) that they didn't think the "H O Y A S" after "You Suck" made sense, I completely agree. I also remember Pops specifically requesting the Pep Band play "Hey Baby". We also changed up the lyrics during one tournament and sang "Hey Leslie" to the CBS sports announcer - blatant attempts to get some TV time! This just brought back some memories. (hazy due to all the alcohol involved....) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

The KC Chiefs play this song after touchdowns. There's nothing like being in a sea of Red of about 78,000 fans doing the same chant. So spare me all this old-timer angst and letters to the editor. I think the "you suck" chant is stupid, but let's not act like this is a song that's been corrupted by some college students.

Here's a suggestion: You'll Never Walk Alone I love that song, especially in that context, but I doubt many people here know the whole song. One thing about the "Hey" song is that it has very simple lyrics, to say the least.

How About , Hey...... GU Hey......GU Hey.......GU H-O-Y-A-S and so on Back in the day, the chearleaders had the Go GU... Go GU..... Go GU chant which was pretty tough and haven't heard it in a while. But the you suck with HOYAS does not work. At the Marquette game, the guy behind me kept saying yah, I agree HOYAS suck. The eagles were only down 12 at the time ! I am 100% with Jack, et al, on this. I have been posting all year that I would love for our cheers to be a POSITIVE representation of our University. The "You suck" line is played-out, offensive, non-specific, & ridiculous. If we can get through to the band & administration, how about making our version of R&R--Pt 2 OUR OWN!!! We could EASILY go with: Hey......WE ROCK Hey.......WE ROCK Hey........WE ROCK Positive, representative of the school cheer, succinct, & ORIGINAL!!!!!!! If this coesn't catch on----I'm with Jack-----Kill the playing of the song altogether.

Here's a suggestion: You'll Never Walk Alone I'd love this at least at soccer games I know the Team has a big banner that reads: "G U Soccer You'll Never Walk Alone " So it only seems right we should sing it at those games. And i'd love for soccer chants to spill into basketball.

We could EASILY go with: Hey......WE ROCK Hey.......WE ROCK Hey........WE ROCK HEY!... WHAT ROCKS?!? HEY!... WHAT ROCKS?!? HEY!... WHAT ROCKS?!? (heavy ass drum solo) I wouldn't mind if a few "soccer" cheers made it into Hoya games, just so long as it isn't that awful "OLE!" chant a bunch of amateurs would use.

The HEY SONG is my FAVORITE part of Hoya Basketball games. I've been a college basketball fan my entire life, and there was nothing more I wanted out of my college experience than to be able to stand in a student section and scream "Hey! You Suck! [Cuse Sucks!]" to the other team. It is a STAPLE of the college basketball experience. I just don't understand. Why take away the one cheer that gets the students excited the most? Please don't ruin an integral part of my college basketball experience.....please. While we are dredging up old threads and pulverizing dead horses... just wondering if everyone's "experience" was ok on Saturday without their favorite cheer?

It was a good experience, one that could only have been better if I was given the chance to shout "Hey! You Suck!" at Pitt players in spirited unison with 2000 other students.
thats all.

It would have to be something we implemented at the beginning of next season, though. But, lots of possibility here...

In fact, here are the songs I want every game...and for the fans to learn for sing alongs/participation:
The Gtown Fight Song -- No explaination needed. Hey Baby -- I love that we sing it at games. You'll Never Walk Alone -- Let's adopt it officially. Did not know the soccer team already had. Sweet Caroline -- Love it at Fenway...and everyone already knows the words. It's infectious. The Great Escape -- Just plain awesome band song. Hawaii 5-0 -- No explaination needed Zombie Nation -- No expalination needed. Imperial March -- Ditto RR part II -- with the noted alterations. Eye of the Tiger -- What wiill we do without Roy? Jeff Greem's Mom -- What will we do without Jeff?

I too would love to see some Soccer chants to arise at Hoya hoops games, however I DO NOT love Liverpool.. one-nil to the arsenal
